Poacher accidentally shoots brother dead in Chiang Mai

By The Nation

A man poaching in a Chiang Mai forest mistook his elder brother for a wild animal and shot him dead.

Siwan Suwinawe, 38, walked out of the forest near the village of Ban Omlong in Tambon Mae Sob, Samoeng district, at 2am Wednesday and turned himself in to police.

He asked them to retrieve the body of his brother, Kasem Suwinawe, 40.

Siwan said he and his brother had gone hunting on Tuesday evening but split up.

He spotted what he believed to be a large animal crawling through the brush and fired one round. There was the sound of a human crying in pain. Siwan found his brother fatally wounded, and he died soon after.

It will be interesting to see how this case fares in comparison with that other high profile hunting case. Chalk and cheese I would reckon.

Good shot - bad hunter.

This is the third similar incident in two weeks! First the Hmong villager who shot his friend when he mistook him for a chicken... then the man in Loei who killed his friend who he mistook for a civet. At least a "large animal" sounds a bit more plausible...

A man accidentally kills his brother while poaching. Turns himself in. Tragic.

Maybe he was hungry. Don't know as there is not enough information.

Lots of jokes about it here though. RIP and condolences to the family.

So, what large animals roam that forest? I also hope the BIB do a bit of investigating and thought into this shooting.

Boys in bathers dont do investigating.

No Burmese deers around and no garden hoes nor dna found.  There was soup,  or was that the brothers blood?

Hope the Police do some investigation , to see whether there was any disagreements between them , any inheritance or loan issues

And from what distance and direction the shot was fired.

The shooter knew that his brother was somewhere nearby, the "large animal" excuse doesn't hold unless he has an IQ in the single digits.

And come to think of it, these stories of hunters accidentally shooting humans, seems to rather frequent
