Unable to Access Certain External (to Thailand) Sites

Featured Replies

Hi,

I noticed that some links suggested by Google will not work. I'm using True Mobile Prepaid Mobile Internet. Are those sites getting blocked?

They are innocuous sites like homedepot.com. They typically redirect you to the http version and then I see a "Access Denied" message. For example, see this screenshot.

Is it us or is it homedepot?

thanks

  Matt

It is you as you are in Thailand.

Homedepot does not like that

Seriously: yes I have the same when I try to connect with normal Thai IP address.I now switched to a VPN (Los Angeles) and can open it

I bet homepro USA blocks access from certain countries or all countries non US?

Trying with a German IP.

Access denied.

They don't want any non US locations to browse their site.

Even if they would not ship abroad still a silly solution.

Thanks for the confirmation. Not trying to buy anything from them, but was looking at some videos.

I wonder if it's an oversight or was it deliberate, can't see no reasons why they would want to stop people browsing their site. I have issues with some other sites like a waste company (need to pay bills).

I do know that some others like letgo.com are deliberate though. They tell you when you go to their website, not just something like Access Denied.

Thanks

Matt

I agree.

There are smarter methods to tell people "we do not serve/ship overseas".

If that is what they mean.

Why not browse and point a friend in the US to a product to ship/bring over?

A Canadian IP is allowed.

Exactly. Unless they are penny pinching on the bandwidth, but a corporation the size of HomeDepot wouldn't do that.

I wasn't looking to buy anything, just viewing some videos on their website.

Matt

Some sites just block certain countries/regions due to having a reputation for internet scams, viruses, etc.

I can't reach the homedepot.com website from my Thai IP address (I'm on AIS Fibre in Bangkok), but make a VPN connection at Singapore and I can.   Ditto for some U.S. govt sites I access:  from a Thailand IP address no-can-do; from a Singapore IP address can-do.
