Speeding car kills roadside vendor

By The Nation

A speeding car crashed into a roadside stall in Pathum Thani province on Friday afternoon, killing the vendor.

Police said the accident happened at 3pm on the western ring road in Tambon Khu Luang, Lard Lum Kaew district.

Sompong Pirason, 32, the vendor who was selling roti saimai (Thai cotton candy in burrito pancake), died at the scene.

The car driver, Panupong Thasa, 33, and his passenger, Anyamanee Senapithak, 26, were injured.

The driver claimed his car’s braking system malfunctioned.

But another driver who witnessed the accident, Phairat Rojanawat, 51, told police that he had seen the car speeding and swerving to the left and right, trying to overtake other vehicles before the crash.

The victim’s mother, Amporn Rodpong 64, told police that her daughter normally sold on the other side of the road but she decided to switch to the opposite side, hoping to make money from motorists leaving Bangkok for Songkran holidays.

Business as usual.

RIP Thai woman, victim of the do nothing Thai police and Thai government.

Brake failure again...

Is it possible that the car's onboard computer can highlight this and show the driver up for the lying murderer he is?

With people like this idiot on the roads, how is Thailand not going to have

400-500 road fatalities in the 2 weeks of the Songkran holiday?...

A pretty good chance, I get a nice printout of my driving style and where I can improve (invariably too heavy with my right foot) whenever the beast gets serviced (Isuzu Mu-X).

Whether this option will ever be taken up is debatable.

It probably won't get 400/500 fatalities.  Might be higher.

Speeding Sompon kills roadside vendor. Why do they always blame the vehicle? Don't they get it that they are supposed to be in control of it?

I think Thailand should also get number one position for the number of defective brakes in vehicles because this is surely well above the average:giggle:

I feel for this vendor but how many times do you see them pitched up by the side of a very fast road.

there is one near to a big superstore where I go regular, its a motorway but vehicles stop blocking one lane.

R.I.P.

If the truth was told, the driver more than likely was using the shoulder of the road to undertake (And probably at speed).  See this all too often, as soon as the main lanes start slowing down a bit there are always lines of vehicles eager to make use of the shoulder(s) to pass.  Should be charged with manslaughter at the least.

if you have not seen the clip,he undertook at very fast speed then went back to the outside lane where he lost control went into a spin and took out the vendor on the left.

Functioning brakes in the mind of the driver obviously dont follow any laws of physics

Probably the 1st time ABS kicked in on him too
