Ducati hypermotard 939

Hello everyone, i thought about purchasing new ducati hypermotard 939, already had a test drive and overal was pretty happy with the bike but after doing some research there seems to be some questions that are not clear for me at the moment.

1. Is it true that the SP version is not available in thailand?

2. Are there lowered and standard versions of the hypermotard 939? Or was it only the case for the 821 and now all the models are lowered? I personally had no problems with seating position during the test drive but i'm not sure which version did i drive and at that moment i didn't know there were different height models, also since i'm tall i would definitely prefer not the lowered version. 

3. Are there any issues with the maintenance, especially in pattaya dealership? Would it be wiser to buy and service the bike in bkk instead?

4. How often do they update the hyper models? It seems that 939's sales have started last year, so if i buy it now i can be sure i have the latest model for at least 1-2 years, is that correct?

1. True. Sold the 821 SP when it was resealed but stopped selling the 939 SP.

2. Only the seat is/was lowered. Basically on all Ducatis sold here.

3. Buying and servicing in Bangkok (main branch https://www.facebook.com/DucatiVibha/) is always better if you have the time to ride to Bangkok.

4. Based on past releases, IF a new (or updated) model is realeased it will be at the EICMA show in Italy in Nov this year and will the be available mid 2019 in Thailand.

4. It looks like the 821 version was around for at least 4 years (since 2014 if i'm not mistaken). Based on this we have pretty low chances of seeing ducati updating their model this year. Am i right?

Can anyone recommend a motorcycle shop in bangkok where i can do some customisations like remove the tail, put the license plate under it and replace the mirrors. Replacing the exhaust would be handy too but i would imagine they might not have it in stock and i will need to wait for it if they order somewhere online.

Apparently it is a US version and it's a bit higher than thai. 

Been on my 939 for a couple of days and already can tell that i want to change this seat coz first of all it's not high enough and it also locks you in place.

Bought one last February, I’ve put about 13,000kms on it, no issues to report.

IMO always better to go to main service centre in BKK, good for window shopping too.

I got Ducati khon kaen to change tail tidy and install intergrated tail light so that the electrics were done properly.

I actually got mine wrapped the SP colours coz I think it breaks up the red nicely.

Out of interest what exhaust you thinking about?

I don't know where you can buy a pre made seat, but labour is cheap in Thailand, you can just get a custom made seat (If i remember correctly my friend paid somewhere in the region of 2k THB for his PCX seat). They take your current seat (You won't have a seat for a few days), remove the padding and put new padding and cover according to your wishes.

The shops usually look somehow like this, just keep your eyes open then you will find one (random image from Google):

Sp colors look good i agree. I got standard red but was also thinking about white, same as on the pic i posted above. Imo it looks good too. 

 

As for the exhaust - first of all the stock one doesn't sound too bad to me and i also don't want to worry about paying fines every time i pass police checkpoints. 

But i would probably change my mind in the future and buy something like sc project.

I don't think i want to do it this way. I want to keep the original seat.

I paid 300 baht for my Honda Wave seat modification in Phuket, incl recover...

One more concern for now. @Nickymaster posted earlier that only the seat is lowered on thai version. Apparently it's not true. The suspension is also lower.

Note the front fork and the exhaust position and it's clear that thai version is at least a couple of inches lower. 

At the moment i'm checking with the dealer on how much will it cost to replace the suspension to the ohlins. Will post an updates here.

SC exhaust would be unbearable on long rides I think.

I had a Zara and Remus on previous bikes and after 4-5 hours sore head. I believe SC would be worse.

Also question: the guy in the ducati shop told me that if i want to switch the riding mode i should only do it with the engine off. Have anyone heard anything about it?

He’s talking pants, I do it at stop signals sometimes.

Once I got use to the bike it’s been left in sports mode - I want all the beans.

Sport is good however it's handy to have touring also when you're carrying a passenger.

Yeah, I bought my wife a full throttle coz I don’t like pillions.

FT perfect size for standard Thai female size, very comfortable ride.

Go in on a honda scoopy and it will cost 200-300

 

Go in on a kawasaki 650 and it will cost at least 400-500

 

Id expect they charge more for ducati and BMW etc because why not? Lol

That’s weird here is a picture of one for sale in Thailand and it looks the higher

They did a similar thing with the Thai market 2017 CRF250L...on the front the tubes were the same length, but the internals were changed to drop it lower...on the rear you had to change the shock...but this could also be done with a different link

When looking at the front forks and the plastic part attached to the lower end of the front forks in this video (all bikes in Thailand obviously) you can see that most of the bikes are high, only some are as low as OPs bike. Maybe when you order it you can choose if you want it high or low and OP just bought the one which was standing in the shop?

These are 821s. They were higher and they also didn't sell well in thailand so they made 939 version lower. Just called ducati shop in bkk and they said all the 939 models in thailand are lowered and you can't order the tall (standard) version from the factory as well. They can only replace the fork and the back suspension for the one that is on the SP model (marzocchi fork and ohlins back suspension i believe) which will cost 200k thb. Pretty expensive but i'm considering it. Also gonna go to europe soon and will check if the parts prices are cheaper there. Maybe it's worth buying it there and bringing it to thailand myself.

With the 821 engine, they had two different models: Hypermotard and Hyperstrada. IIRC, the motard was original height and the strada was lowered.

Quick update: the ohlins suspension+fork will be above 200k and it's not even including the replacement costs.

I just checked, the SP model has a 2cm higher seat height. Not sure if that's really worth it, 100k per centimeter. Sure the Ohlins suspension will also be a bit better than the normal one but then again, will you be able to utilize its potential? The SP probably doesn't cost 200k more than the standard Hypermotard (can't find the price on the Ducati page...) so upgrading now will cost you dearly. I would be looking for other solutions.

Yep sorry that pic I posted earlier today with the higher suspension is a 2014 model......still all a little strange was looking at these bikes a lot as wouldn’t mind one myself and I thought some of the pictures the bikes looked almost short and stumpy looking ,,,I put it down to the way the pictures was taken...lol

Yeah the seat is also higher. Will replace it first. 

It looks more than 2cm on the pics though. Anyway it's kind of a long time dream bike for me so i'll probably invest in the suspension as well.

And frankly speaking it's just about the looks for me, not the potential.

I tried the 821 Hyperstrada some time ago and boy did I have fun.
