Video: Aunty forgets to brake! Nearly kills herself at level crossing

Featured Replies

So now the brake failure epidemic in Thailand has spread to motorcycles? Either that, or she was in her own little bubble and oblivious to anything around her as so many Thais are when they drive.

Are you serious ??  The barrier starts to lower at 39 secs into the clip, at 50 secs it's fully down. That's 11 secs to lower fully.. She hits the barrier at 53 secs point... All the time, t

which would also keep her in the 'smart' group!

She just landed on her ass when faced with a big red n white barrier and a bright flashing orange light.

There really is nothing smart going on here :)

Just watched again...

She almost went back for her flip flop !!

Decided against that, so the bang on the chin must have woken her up slightly :)

I wish I could slow that down because I was trying to see if that was a phone in her right hand. The right hand comes up sharply upon impact, as though see was not holding the bar.

Too fast for me to tell.

Both hands "undoubtedly" on the bar before impact!

Luckily, she wasn't riding fast and was wearing a helmet.  The barrier did come down quite fast.  There've been examples of far worse tbh.  It's a genuine accident.  Most of us have walked in to things that weren't there a few seconds ago.

Genuine accident? Carelessness and stupidity more like it. Please don't make excuses for it.

No brake failure here mate. What we did have was a failure to brake, a slight difference.

She was blissfully unaware of the barriers, bells, lights and possible train horn.

You are right about her "little bubble" though, probably thinking of what to make for the next meal.

One can get distracted or lose concentration at some point in their life (except those on here of course who choose to make fun of and ridicule her). Just glad she is OK and.

.."Well done that man".

What the hell was she looking at if not the road straight ahead??? It really beggars belief. She's lucky she still has her head with her at the end of it.

On a more positive note, it's nice to see someone not asleep at work. Khun Phijit even managed to put on a high-visibility jacket on his way to help the poor lady. That's quite a lot of health-and-safety boxes ticked in a short span of time.

wearing it only because she was probably told that without it ,it would cost her money.

Whilst she survived and appeared unhurt I pity the unfortunate victim who will cross paths with her in the future.

Lets hope when/if they get those promised super fast trains running,

that they invest in much better barriers.

No need, there will be no grade crossings, only bridges and underpasses. ROW fenced, until the locals try to shortcut. We shall see.Right now, that pie is still baking in the sky.

Zero road concentration while riding. In a rush to buy Som Tam?

This guy deserves a medal, not only does he don the obligatory and 'express proof' high visibility vest on his way out but also he has a well kept hut, nicely painted and with some planters outside. Well done that man !

Nor was she on her phone, so actually that puts her in the 'clever group' for Thailand!

Perhaps she saw a very handsome Farang on the other side and lost control.

Nothing new here.  Same mindset as drivers who pull out from side roads without stopping or looking.

It takes time to learn new things.

..Thai Railways need to raise the bar...someone could get hurt.

She probably forgot to take it off from the previous week.

Or she thought it looked like rain.

Just hold a moment: who is there saying you can't forget some little things.....

Stupid is as stupid does. Years ago these people with slow brains would have been walking or on pedal cycles, today they drive amongst us.

No eyesight or hearing tests, probably never had a lesson or taken a test in her life, no surprises, except for the facts she wore a helmet and wasn’t on the phone. Must be brake failure or slippery road excuses!

And this clearly demonstrates why pedestrians should be VERY careful on Zebra crossings....

Lets not forget to praise the actions of the railway worker. He moved the bike first before helping the stupid woman. His actions prevented a far worse situation.....

Obviously she has some mental challenge or some other challenges (incl. the darken visor idea). Maybe she was tired or sleepy (Some people must wake up too early to work). Maybe she drank the night before. There are many possibilities outside the most obvious one.

I find some  of the comments by people making fun of the person's inability sad and retarded. Ironically, they might be just as brainless as her (if straight and emotional intelligence matter).  Some describe the video as funny. I wonder if they were sad that she did not kill herself.

The more I stay on these forums the more I feel that some comment to make themselves look and feel better. Like I say --and I repeat for the ones who did not get it then first time-- I think some of them are challenged too.

I showed the video to my 13 year old Thai son and his response was

Duhh. Stupid woman.

Also could not see the flashing lights or hear the bell. Well at least it wasn't brake failure. Just brain failure

At last a genuine reason for so many accidents in Thailand! Not brake failure but failure to apply brakes. Doesn't lessen culpability but does exemplify an inability to control a lethal projectile.
