Surachet Hakpal - the deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau - has turned his crime busting might to illegal tourism businesses in Chiang Mai.

Top on the list of suspects for the Major General - known in the Thai media as Big Joke - were elephant camps, zipline businesses, hotels, apartment complexes and shops selling sub-standard products.

Two elephant camps in Keuk Chang sub-district of Mae Taeng were visited where it is suspected that land has been encroached upon.

A zipline operation was meant to have been dismantled in a previous order but was still operational.

Six vehicles were seized and two businesses were found to have no licences.

A total of 14 adventure facilities were visited with four being shut down.

A total of 19 places were raided by Surachet's men, region 5 police, the military and forest rangers.

Some involved the practice of foreign nominees fraudulently running businesses.

Maybe while he is CNX he can check the illegal BIB motorbike checkpoints.

Probably too many local and well-connected operators running REALLY substandard businesses have complained, as properly managed operations affected their bottom line.

Competition is not something that is appreciated in the kingdom (see TAXI topics and the likes)

What is he doing in Chiang Mai? His jobs in Bangkok and Pattaya are accomplished and everything works fine there?

Just today there are news about the boat operators that give a s.... about not using the beach for anchoring.

At all three places he should take care of illegal taxis. And by illegal I mean those who not use the meter...

................shops selling sub standard products .  I suppose that is one way to get at the Chinese .

Chiang Mai the big joker is in town, Beware or the joke will be on you

Even the Deputy Commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau does not have sufficient authority to do that.

I wonder if he might pop along to see our good friends at Promenada....

While that might be true (or not), if the accused businesses had the proper license(s) and were in compliance with laws and regulations, that wouldn’t really matter, would it? You can’t expect equal treatment in these cases, that’s just a fact.

I have never been to a country where the people are so used to hypocrisy. Where I see so many people pretend to be good people. Where I see people are scam, murdered, cheated, raped, sexually molested yet they just go about their life as if nothing much really matter.

Thailand doesn't exist, it's a make-believe country.

Next Stop .. the taxi stand on "arrivals" at Suvarnabhumi Airport, with undercover ops disguised as tourists ?....now this would be even a bigger joke !! :cheesy:

I assume every Thai run business will be closed soon then.
