BANGKOK — Soldiers seized banners from marching workers demanding democracy today in northern Bangkok, while a union leader was detained at a downtown police station for staging a protest in front of the United States embassy.

The junta’s clampdown on any sign of unauthorized protest continued for May Day, a public holiday under the name “National Labor Day” in Thai. Hundreds also took part in the state enterprise union’s rally to the Government House and a pro-election demonstration down Ratchadamnoen Avenue, though without any interference from the authorities.

Still no protesting or political gatherings allowed, but we’re told there’ll be elections in February. Yea, right!

Wasn't the junta proudly mentioning there haven't been protests which meant their reconciliation was succesful?

How about this event?

Or it doesn't count as police was there just in time?

When the shit does eventually hit the fan, and it will, it will bring the fan to a stop. Then things will start to get very hot indeed,.

“I want them to return elections to the people,” Sripai said

Sadly freedom is almost a dirty word over at government house in Bangkok.  The word is never mentioned, as it allows scrutiny and debate.  Something college kids are able to do but the junta is  ill equipped for.  As the constipated spokesman said of the unelected prime minister: "does not like to argue back and forth".   How does somebody like that even talk to a Trump or other elected leader ?  These people want to argue not throw stones.

Democracy rules in Thailand. Just trying to work out what is the difference from a Junta government and a dictatorship? A very fine line indeed

I agree but I think you may have missed three words. Free and fair
