A trash cage near the Pratunam area in Bangkok, posted Thursday.

BANGKOK — Netizens on Friday were decrying the behavior of people who misused the capital’s newly installed trash cages, prompted by a post showing rubbish thrown haphazardly into one of them.

An initiative by Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang’s administration to install trash cages (khok kiew or “green pens” in Thai) and reduce the sprawl of bags dumped unceremoniously on the capital’s sidewalks began Wednesday. But a Thursday post by Facebook page Thailand Footpath, which shows trash carelessly thrown into the cages, ignited online criticism of Thai discipline – or the structures themselves.

always got to complain and take a photo, so pick it up and put it in the bin then, that rubbish we see would have been thrown into the street/pavement maybe the bins could have had solid sides as the crap was not on display, still, its a start

Let's just be thankful they are throwing the rubbish into the bins and not onto the pavement - or elsewhere

But they are in effect throwing it onto the pavement, aren't they.  That's the problem.  A few rats, a cat or a dog, or a bit of wind and that pile will be all over the road by morning.

They really need solid sides but even with solid sides the design doesn't work because the rubbish collectors can't get the rubbish out.  None of those guys are going to be taking the time to pick out single items of trash by hand, and you can't expect them to.

They're designed only for bags, which would be easy to pull out.  But that was never going to work.  Better if they use actual bins.

Remove the sidewalk vendors to free up the sidewalk and replace them with cages full of garbage.

Now there's an innovative idea.  Oops watch those big words it's still early!

This is how the BIG boys and girls do it. Very easy to put Thai and/or pictures on their sides to make them REAL easy to understand. Of course add one more bin for foodstuff.

Thailand is streets ahead of the so called big boys and girls when it comes to basic recycling.

Those fancy bins would never fill in the LOS because their content is already covered by an army of recycle ninjas on patrol 24/7. The problem is the recyclers throw the crap everywhere while digging for the good stuff.
