Thai residents in Lampang have called for action against a foreigner flying a paramotor over a sacred Buddhist religious site.

Visitors to the temple of Wat Phra That Lampang Luang on Friday evening were shocked to see the man almost collide with a structure that houses Buddha's relics.

The site is 1,300 years old in the Koh Kha district of the northern Thai province.

Thai people tried to chase him away as startled birds flew off.

The foreigner was seen to land nearby where he and a friend hurriedly packed up their paramotor and fled the scene.

Thais want something done about this inappropriate behavior, reported Thai Rath.

A paramotor is a powered paraglider.

This foreigner should have know a little bit better. Choosing to paraglide so close to and around as well as closely over a buddist religious place is a lack of common knowledge.

Ha just should have known better.

Do you need a license to power glide in Thailand

1.300 years old temple ???????

No such thing in thailand , their best buildings crack and start leaking after a few years ......

maby they mean  the Khmer left overs ....yep, but not build by Thais.

Not defending the OP but it did say the SITE  was 1300 years old not the current Wat.   In Europe many cathedrals are built on sites much older than that because of perceived ley lines or something else like that, I. E. Pre Christian era. Sometimes the current cathedral is a paltry 800 or 1,000 years old.

surprise none of them on the ground didn't try to chute him down!

surely LOS isn't the only country that does not control airspace, and have regulated clearance limitations of powered flight over built up areas?

Well he was French, says it all really.

Remember After the Wright Brothers were first in powered flight ,The French took up the aviation challenge and in a few years became the foremost innovators in the field with many Americans going to France to become more efferent in aviation.

As a Buddhist, trust me - Buddha doesn't care!

As a Buddhist, trust me - there are no Buddha relics in that structure.

if you are consider the angle from where this picture was made, size of the tower and the size of the parasail, then most properly the glider was 300++ meters away from the temple.
this is the legal distance to sell alcohol away from schools, so it must be enough to pass a temple in air too.

What is nearby and how about the temple in Suvarnabhumi Airport?
I can understand that they have hurried to pack everything, if a wild superstitous mob is chasing you. In the twilight they have seen Krahang flying over there heads and who knows what they have thrown onto them. Guns are everywhere and bullets flying easy.
Better to make a runner.

It is advisable to keep a low profil with all those spersitous around you particularly in the rural area, it is very easy to piss on s***er off. All your adventure sports you should practice outside of Thailand, they are not ready for this.

STOP :

Those disrespectful Thais from littering with gay abandon

Those Thais that think they have the right tp do wjat they want when they want

Those Thais from ignoring all laws because they do not like them.

When that happens THEN foreigners might have more respect, now they see what Thais do , and COPY.

O;d adage... People in Glasshouses should not throw stones ....................

So putting you feet over somebody´s head or Buddha´s head is perfectly fine in this part of the world? The only thing ridiculous is that you choose to disregard that it´s not ok.
It might also be that you are unaware, or just don´t wont to act like a respectful person in a country with different values. You might even be a person that do not wont to respect the culture and the beliefs of the people. Who is making himself ridiculous then?
