Mae Rim animal sanctuary damaged by storms

Thailand's 1st Farm Sanctuary at Love Animal House (since 1993) got thrashed by fierce storms 4 days ago in Mae Rim District.

This property presently houses 5 water buffalo & 25 cows & bulls rescued from slaughter 21 years ago.

Huge trees barely missed sleeping staff and buffalo. The place is wrecked, roofing & fences coming down. More trees loom & threaten to come down as the winds and rain continues. Trees have fallen in the past taking down complete shelters. It is a dangerous situation.

The remaining trees need to be felled and used to rebuild the shelter.

However, private owner, Danish retiree Marianne Willemse, a well known animal rescuer in Thailand for 30 years, is exhausting her monthly pension just to feed and care for the animals on a daily basis.

Employing 3 staff, providing food formula, hay & cut grass, the monthly cost is enormous and there is nothing left for development - let alone this massive expense ahead of the rebuilding and clean up of the wreckage.

Love Animal House has been sponsored in the past by Brigitte Bardot Foundation France/Best Friends Org. USA/ Thamtai Foundation Bangkok/ Harmony Fund USA.

The sanctuary was awarded Best Sanctuary in 2011 & 2013 by Body Shop Foundation UK and also awarded prize for 21 years of Animal Welfare in Thailand by Photographers Without Borders in 2015. Marianne retired her rescue work in 2015 but is still active with community animals.
