The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will select 150 sois across all 50 districts in the capital for promoting as community parks, BMA Governor Aswin Kwanmuang said on Tuesday.

He said each district office would select three sois in its jurisdiction where local communities were willing to cooperate with the BMA in the project.

Residents of the selected streets would be encouraged to grow trees and flowers in front of their homes and keep the areas tidy and clean, and they would be regarded as community parks.

The city administration would have to not spend any budget for the project as it would seek cooperation from the communities to maintain the parks, Aswin said.

The BMA would later select the best and most beautiful sois for awards, the governor added.

hard to believe trees and flowers in front of houses can turn a soi into a community park.  perhaps a 'green area' but far from a 'community park'.  i'm sure something was lost in translation (not sarcasm).

If the roads were pedestrianized, banning cars, trucks and motorcycles, then I would understand.  But with traffic still streaming through and vehicles parked everywhere, I don't get it.

This is another still-born by the BMA as long as they don't announce the value of any award in Thai Baht or US$.

Now I wait for the TAT to hop on this nonsense luring tourists to participate in "Pretty Soi's Tours" and handing out free garbage bags after they paid the "foreigners only entrance fee".

So, spend your own time and money to make the front of your home look good so the city govt can then take credit for it and imply its now a community park that others should come use.   Yea, right, sign me up for this program now!!!

I have seen beautiful tree lined streets all over the world. No parking on pavements, open bicycle lanes, handicap access ramps, no packs of rabbed dogs, no illegal food carts. No street hustlers, no trash-heaps.

How is this MAGIC accomplished?

Maybe the BMA should invite in some foreign consultants.

A lot of the sois are narrow enough without planting, trees, shrubs, bushes or

anything that will further shrink their size. A very Idiot idea!
