A motorcyclist ignored a road barrier and fell into a large hole dug in preparation for the construction of a pillar for a canal bridge in Samut Prakan’s Muang district in the early hours of Thursday, dying instantly, police reported.

A motorist driving past the spot on Buddha Raksa Road in Tambon Praekkasa saw the body and alerted police at 2am.

Police and rescuers found the body of Chakkrit Suha, 36, from Surin at the bottom of the hole, his forehead, throat, chest and leg pierced by four of the iron bars used to reinforce concrete pillars. The front tyre of his motorcycle incurred similar damage.

Tyre tracks on the road indicated he had been trying to brake about 50 metres short of the hold.

Police said the contractor had put up concrete barriers to tell motorists to use the right lane but Chakkrit apparently drove through a small space between the barriers and was unable to stop in time when he saw the hole ahead.

no one tell me what to dooooooooo...

RIP.

RIP. One of the brightest men ever lived in the area of Surin has just tragically passed away.

Braking for 50 meters and couldn't stop??? He nailed that rebar dead on. Nasty!

you see this constantly here, motorbikes simply riding through/around road blocks/barriers because they dont want to travel any extra distance, they totally ignore warnings etc, just look how many are cleaned up at railway crossings by ignoring signs/bells/barriers. Then you have the idiot road workers that dig bloody great holes in the road and dont bother to put up any warnings/barriers or use any lighting to enable you to see it, safety is simply not a part of thai agenda, would take extra work/thinking to make sure no one is injured

2 AM, racy bike.

50 (!) meters.

I have an idea what two factors were involved.

This is a cause for celebration, not grief.
The world is rid of a monkey-brained Somchai who was equally a danger to others, as he was to himself.

what did they expect to happen? grow wings and suddenlty become a muslim with the 99 virgins?

Warning signage is almost non-existent. Recently in Surin I saw an electronic warning sign, first ever. Last week in SriRacha town I drove through roadworks following the motorcycles... to find the final barrier was too close for a pickup to pass through! There had been no signage and the barriers did not indicate a no exit. Fortunately, with 4 wheel drive, I could mount the footpath and escape...

Since when motorbike riders follow rules. Running on footpaths, beating traffic lights. Good lesson for them.
