Bachelor’s degree in the Philippines
You mentioned "....Thais expect, as a Westerner, that I have a university degree from Europe?" You mention "...from Europe". Are you serious on that point? Plenty of other countries where you can attend classes / study online for a bachelor degree. What subject would you study for your bachelor degree? (Regardless of location, online / in classroom study.) But keep in mind that teaching employment (especially English) in Thailand is a very mixed picture. You mention teach English, are you fully up to date with current attitudes / qualifications which schools look for? There's websites which might be worth looking at re that question which can put you in touch with current teachers. Regardless, there's still schools which aren't serious about teacher qualifications and will accept any document which appears to be somehow linked. A question for you: Would you personally employ a foreigner who has a bachelor degree (in any subject) gained online for a position to teach English? Another question: If you are a foreign parent would you accept a foreigner to teach your kids English (all skills) who just has a degree in any subject gained online*? And if the degree is not in the area of English development, same question, 'would you accept that foreigner as capable of teaching your kids English (all skills)? (* Philippines doesn't have a good reputation for online degrees. E.g. Who completed the assignments etc? Does the uni offering the online Bachelor degree give assignments then provide the student with answers to the assignments?) Same question If you are a foreign parent would you accept a foreigner to teach your kids English but I add...'and the foreigner has not attended any form of study specific to teaching English? Perhaps others more up to date in this area might like to add their thoughts / experiences. -

Turmoil over Trump's tariffs. But the industry is already in chaos over his tariffs Behind the constant flipflopping there is the nagging question regarding nostalgia in the US for the manufacturing era post WW2. At that time there was little competition amongst the rest of the world, but times have changed. if companies really did start producing I-phones in the US only, how much would they cost? Wedbush's Dan Ives claimed an Apple I phone produced in the US ,could cost $3500, and it would take over three years and $30 billion just for Apple to move 10% of its supply chain to the US. -

What would it actually take to elevate Thailand?
Nope... not when friends have been close friends for decades and also find subjects that we disagree on. Perhaps you've not had long lasting close friendships here, so may not be able to picture a normal cross cultural friendship. You've shoehorned in a bias of yours... discussions can be held without confrontation - again, you may not be able to picture a normal cross cultural friendship - discussion is quite normal. The 'general non confrontational nature' of Thai's does not mean they are incapable of healthy discussion - you seem ignorant to that reality. I used the 'term innocently ignorant'... perhaps rethink your faux-offense, its a bit childish. -

I’ve backpacked through Southpark Asia for years… now i feel quietly pushed out
I’ve been coming to Asia for many years, always on a shoestring. Not a digital nomad, not chasing luxury, just a little bit of a backpacker. The kind who speaks some Thai, stays in hostels, eats street food, and knows the backstreets better than the malls. My first thought goes out to Cheap Charlie in Pattaya. I wonder how he’s getting on. He, like many of us, made a life of simplicity here. I know I inspired friends to follow in my footsteps, some of them spent 30k in a month on holidays, even medical trips. But that was never my style. I stretched every dollar, every baht. And it used to be enough. Now, I feel like I’m considered a low-quality tourist. Immigration seems colder. More scrutiny. More suspicion. Like I’m not welcome anymore unless I can show a big bank balance and perfect insurance. I probably won’t even get 60 days in the country this year. It’s like Thailand (and Southeast Asia in general) has shifted. It’s aiming for a new kind of tourist, those who book resorts from Instagram, drop cash on wellness retreats, and never talk to locals unless it’s through Grab or room service. And that’s fine. Things change. But it stings. Because I’ve loved this region quietly, humbly—for decades. And now I feel like I’m being pushed out of a home I never really had. Just wondering if anyone else feels this shift? Or is it just me, feeling a bit left behind? -

Re: Stopping with the raunchy Rolling Stones. Starting with JS Bach Contatas!
Although the Toccatas are amazing, I am not a big fan of organ music, and prefer chamber music, piano, and JS Bach cello. Still, if I had to listen to organ, then I would listen to something like this...maybe.... But, probably not, and instead I would prefer something like this: By the way: Gould is a Ghoul....I don't like the Ghoul.... He goes NUTZO...and starts talking to himself.... Halfway through. Very disconcerting, as you probably know.... (Still, when he stops talking to himself, the Ghoul is just...AMAZING...!!!)
