Video: Kid's fault or song thaew driver? Comments rife after student tumble

Thai media posed a question after a young female student tumbled onto the road from the back of a packed "song thaew" on the way to school:

Daily News asked: Was the student to blame or the song thaew driver?

The footage showed the girl with her satchel fall as the vehicle made off in front of the Chao Phraya market in Nonthaburi. The girl gets up and is momentarily comforted by a policeman. The driver appears oblivious that one of their passengers has fallen off.

It was posted by Kohchnan Saisutswat on Facebook who gave some hashtag food for thought to inspire the discussion:

#song thaew leaves fast

#student had no place to stand for an adequate hold

#vehicle was overloaded

#lucky no following traffic was driving fast

#accidents always happen

The drivers here are excellent and very professional. The idiot is the student. How dare he fall?

the Parents for letting this taxi drive their kid , the driver for allowing the kids to hang on the taxi , the government for not pressing the police to enforce rules , the police to not doing their job

apart from the overloading the driver did not seem at fault, the girl takes a little step back and then another, it was like she forgot she was on the

metal step as she tried to stand in the road while still holding onto the vehicle. many Thai's have a problem with spacial  awareness IMHO .

Can't be the drivers fault, he just drives, stops, drives...

Pretty sure these vehicles are not legal ie bench seats with no seat belts ??

It's societies fault, as stated above. No-one cares that the country is going backwards into the 19th century....

Errr, I think that would be a giant leap forwards.

If checking your Facebook is more important than holding on this is what will happen.

Nice to see a caring cop was able to get the traffic moving without delay.

In his defence he is a she.

Parents seem to treat their kids as a commodity here, just to be brought up to support the parents in their old age. Won’t even spend the equivalent of 6 bottles of Chang to buy them a crash helmet, let alone provide any safe transport to and from school. The whole society has the same laissez-faire attitude to care and safety, so nothing changes and lots of them die or become disabled. Least bought item for cars are child safety seats.

Thais always like to blame foreigners. so its OUR fault. Cos if one of us had been standing behind the girl we would have saved her from falling !!  Thai Logic ?

She fall>>> take another good look

yes it was her fault, she was already starting to fall before the speed increased.. she had nothing to hold onto except her breath!!

Or perhaps Thai society is to blame for not demanding that their governments implement and enforce traffic laws that forbid the overpacking of commercial transport vehicles.
Ya think maybe?  Just more road carnage.

Speechless! All kind of shits happened in this country but nobody bothers!

I've watched it several times, and she definately starts to fall as he speeds away, the jerking motion of the truck caused her to lose here balance and fall into the street................

I was confused when I first heard the term back to the future.  Now it's forward to go back which is forward after all. Time is always now so doesn't really matter.
