Back in (about) 1980, my ex-wife's best friend opened her guest house and restaurant in Naklua. This enterprising young lady was also the mia noi of a high ranking Chonburi (not Pattaya) cop and the other guests included the likes of a Kunphlome or two. Food and drinks were served by totally naked pretties who, if one requested, would sit on your lap and have a cocktail or spoon feed you. Of course I wasn't able to partake to that degree but it quickly impressed me with the difference between the have's and the have not's in Thailand's society. I am not sure if off-site, after-event assignations were fulfilled in the many hot-sheet motels in the area but if a pretty gets paid enough to work naked, I am pretty sure the mark-up for 'full-service' wasn't out of the regular patrons budget.

I don't see how that has changed much either.. apart from danger of stuff now being shared on social media, thus causing a 'scandal'.

Good post and spot on. Whether all pretties will provide sexual services or not, the meaning pretties have become synonymous with high end prostitution services. And yes, now with social media, pretties have gained even more-so that reputation, similar to how Japanese geisha girls became synonymous with prostitution.

Getting back on topic, what used to be cheap entertainments (especially for the guys) in Chiang Mai, has now become highly commercialised and money orientated. A lot of it is now operating behind the scenes by agencies and online. Those scouting around the city looking for some late night social entertainments, are not going to find it, not like in Bangkok or Pattaya whereas one can`t fail to miss the nightlife there.

There are more guys finding dates in front of the Nana car park in one hour, than an entire evening of Nimman.

How many of you who are stating all or most pretties are prostitutes actually go out to the many bars and restaurants in Chiang Mai that employ pretties and talk to them?  I suspect a great deal of these posts are being made with very little current information on the subject.

I've allowed myself to be drawn off-topic, this thread isn't about prostitution, it is about nightlife, and lack of, in the Nimmanhamin area.  Those who equate nightlife with prostitution need to go elsewhere.

Not trying to start something with you, but what is your definition of "nightlife".

Places with food, drink, music, people out to socialize and have fun, stuff like that.

didn't you hear about the new world order?  It is not OK to have straight sex, only to find places for you and your partner to drink  craft beer.

A short Nimman update:  The area set up by Heineken at Think Park for watching the World Cup, the place that was dead last Friday, was packed last night.  I assume it will remain so until the World Cup is finished.  Every seat was full and the small Heineken pretty was working as fast as she could serving beer.

Sitting and watching a football game isn't my idea of great nightlife, but I don't begrudge those who are into it.

You mean picking up hookers.  That is not what Nimman is known for.  But your point is taken, those looking for prostitutes will do far better in Bangkok than Chiang Mai.

You can do that on Nimman, but it will cost you.  The beer is usually good (better than when these places started), but other than that I think these places are boring.

That is why I was mocking it...Republic was like watching white paint dry, and prices in the stratosphere.

If you want ammunition for serious mocking, check out the craft beer place on top of One Nimman.  It has prices and atmosphere that make Beer Republic and Beer Lab look cheap and exciting.

and another point is that while Chinese women commonly have white boyfriends and marry them in America....I have never heard of a single instance, where a farang has hooked up with a China Doll in CM..ever, and quite a few are good lookers, and it is relatively easy to chat with them...I think the Malaysian girls would be easier to get in the sack.  Not many of them up there, but scores in BKK...very flirty.  Obviously the brightest candles of the Thai neighbors....not quite ready for a tropical fruit commercial, but their English is quite good.

OK, everybody differs many men think a Nana/Soi Cowboy or Walking Street is nightlife.

But, from my experience walking around Nimman area at night that is exactly what you described. Food, drink, some music and people socializing.

I am OK with both actually I live in Pattaya, but come to CM to get away from the former.

Lots of people are walking around Nimman, but there is a serious shortage of decent bars and restaurants for them to settle into.  It didn't use to be like that.

I assume most of the "Pretties" in the 1980's were from dirt poor subsistence farming families, had very little education, and understood that the job was as a prostitute.  Most of the pretties in Chiang Mai now are college students working for major alcoholic drink companies that don't want their brand associated with prostitution.  The women also don't want to be associated with prostitution.

Things have changed a lot in Thailand since the 1980's.

In CM probably right.

Only because their mindset has in some way changed.

There are 1000's of Thai girls online wanting to meet men.

95% want money.  But in no way do they consider themselves prostitutes.

They are just meeting for an evening date. Many have day jobs.

Their "you take care me" in their minds does not mean prostitution.

Watching a football game at a huge-open air bar in Fortaleza , eating mediocre pizza and washing it down with draft Heineken was a precursor to impromptu but well-received karaoke performances and ultimately one of the best and spontaneous 3-somes I have ever been invited to partake in.

Oh,... you're still here?

Still assuming stuff you know absolutely farkall about?

FWIW, they were mostly tall, pale-complexioned, height-weight proportionate, all quite pretty and their... front lawns were well tended.

Today's pretties don't work for the major alcoholic drink companies, they work for agencies... same as a lot of the prettier bar girls do.

The pretties are wearing dresses prominently displaying the names of every major drink distributor in Thailand.  These distributors are contracting through agencies, but since the distributors are the source of the money, they are the employers.  These distributors won't pay for pretties that are known prostitutes, especially if they are hustling while on the job and wearing the company logo.

Yes, I'm still here, still on Nimmanhamin, and still posting pertinent information on nightlife on Nimmanhamin when something new comes up.  Why are you here?  What have you contributed?

Bruce, how is it, that we American expats would be better off with this?  And her rapist husband?  You seem a bit delusional.  Quite a few of us expat Trump supporters made more this week sleeping, than you have, this year, as the expat voice of CMU.  Are you prepared to be the last one out of Nimman, in the game of expat musical chairs?  It is dead, you know that, but you linger on with Leftist ramblings of someone solely focussed on creating their own importance.  I did see the photo shoot of the First Lady.....quite nice.

Way off-topic, but since you found a bad picture of HRC, I can't resist showing you why that was the wrong approach.  Look at what we have:image.png.92698c6938bcb10b678b0c47ff080371.png\image.png.a2a9e8e8adaccc1c63d8fbc374ce06c9.pngimage.png.0861d8cd0cd6f8e9b1aa26ee1701741e.png

Ok loverboys, this thread has been so enlightening that I want to make a proposal.

Since we have so many experts on chatting up women, sussing out pros from pretties, and enticing college girls to shed their uniforms, I invite them to put their game on the line. Let's meet up and go out one night this week. I'll buy a couple of rounds, and you show what you can do. I shall report back to the forum faithfully on how it goes.

Any takers?

Yes, the pretties work though agencies. I was just correcting you on your earlier misstatement that the pretties worked for "major alcoholic drink companies". Now you state they work for "every major drink distributor". Despite not being able to make your mind up, thanks for (kind of) acknowledging that you are sometimes wrong.

Is there an app or some other technology that allows these agencies to spot the few that undeniably go the extra mile? I mean they don't LOOK like hookers after all and the agency doesn't assign a supervisor on each and every watering hole so how can they tell? I mean what does a Thai on Thai hustle look like? Can you tell us? Let me guess... you can spot them a mile off, no?

...

When I said "I don't see how that has changed much either", I was referring to the FACT that some pretties (or whatever they were called 30-odd years ago) were not averse to sell more than just their prettiness and beer selling skills. Yes, some things have changed a lot, there's BTS and MRT, a choice of Bangkok airports, taxis use their meters and there's been a few coups as well. But pretty Thai ladies getting paid for doing the horizontal mambo? That has not changed, never will.

Reality? Something that your take on the immaculate Thai pretty is totally lacking. Maybe it's a Chiang Mai thing? Maybe it's just you.

Stick to the original subject and posting pertinent information on nightlife on Nimmanhamin and you'll do just find but getting all high and mighty about your virtuous pretties is on a hiding for nothing.

You said you don't like sitting watching football in a pub or bar. Neither do I but eschewing those venues when the alternatives are slim to none... like on Nimmanhamin, one maybe just stay home and whine about it on the forums.

Oh, wait...

PS: None of the participants in the rumpy-pumpy were hookers (and one was engaged to be married) but I guess you haven't been to Brazil either.

Leo recruit their own. Chang recruit their own.

(don't know if Chang hire an agency to run Chang girls, but they certainly don't come from a general pool of beer staff)

One night I was in a bar (4 years back) the Chang girls handler came in and all the girls in Chang dresses went over to discuss pay, none of the girls wearing the other beer dresses went over. As far as I know the branded beer girls work direct for the beer company and are assigned to various bars, free of charge, on the volume of their brand beer sold. The vast majority that don't wear branded dress are employees of the bar. Not sure why an argument about  branded beer girls has erupted, they are a minority.

Have no recent knowledge (since the Junta beer brand advertising rules) of beer dresses.

But never mind, still plenty of pretties around, Oxide does 'theme' nights, I enjoy window shopping.
