Ahh, that 250 Maico. Ahead of its time, 6 speed gearbox, 28hp! Same engine produced 37hp in the scrambler version. Aircooled in the beginning, later liquid cooled. A pretty machine though .. Yes, absolutely. Ahead of its time, I said: it was introduced in 1972, and had a stunning - for a roadgoing 250 - topspeed of 160 km/h (100 mph). Lightweight too: 126 kg. Pointless electronic ignition was also a feature that was quite uncommon. Never became very popular though.

Unfortunately this was 46 years ago, doubt there are any more bargains like that out there! Kicked myself many times since then! ????

HD Panhead/Knucklehead bottom end with custom beautiful 4V heads and a 4 speed HD box tipped on its nose. Oh, and the rear head reversed, running Amal monobloc or TT carbs. Not exactly porn, and quite the opposite end of the spectrum compared to the above, but i thought i'd bang it in anyway for a heads up. Spotted this little babe in my weekly perusal of Kaidee Mocy; early 200cc Tiger Cub, fairly original, seems to be legit, 150k. Not too shabby for over here.
Popular Post kickstart
After Gussies comments about the Arial Leader, not exactly porn, but in some eyes, it could be. Anyway, a Thruxton Velolcette 500cc single, factory built only 1100 were built, its predecessor was the Venom, a class winner at the prestige Thruxton 500, so the factory built this Thruxton Velolcette, a nice looking bike too, it had some racing success. But like most British bike manufacturers, using a design that went back to 1935, could not compete with the Japanese bikes, Velocette shut the gates in 1971. Ps, I am not going to post a Velo Noddy bike, might upset someone.

Had over 40hp and judging by the sound of it when pulling away after pitstops, a very long first gear. Must have had a close ratio gearbox.

I would have ANY Velo, 350 or 500 single, in a heartbeat. Absolutely love them to bits. More so than just about any other single made inc a Vinnie Comet. A Gold Star does not even deserve the same garage space. Perhaps equal to or preferable than a cammy Norton............

I often dreamed about the IoM TT during my racing years, but I never got there. I often watch similar - but often of a much better quality - Youtube videos, many hundreds there. Would you believe that the lap record shows an average speed of 216.3 km/h? During the sixties there were several riders that managed the ton 100 mph/160km/h - as average with a single cylinder 50hp Norton Manx......... The Ulster GP, on a 11km road track in Northern Ireland, is also fascinating to watch, many videos available too.

I do find some photo's are tagged with incorrect details so I went back and checked this one .. The photo as found on 'net is below .. I couldn't remember ( bloody memory is fading now ) who bought who so I went and read up abit on it .. According to Stickypedia H R D went into voluntary liquidation early 1928 and the assets were bought by OK Supreme who sold the name , pattern's and tooling to Vincent's about 5 mths later .. But either way 'tis a good looking machine is it not .. Edited February 11, 2019 by Justgrazing Sp

To tell you the truth, I don't really like that 100 year anniversary one, but can see it increasing in value over the years. There's something about the regular SS100 that I do like though, especially the 'full black' one. And a bargain at only £59,999 (so about 10,000 baht after Brexit).
