Americans are not British subjects nor subservient to the House of Windsor or the British Monarchy.  A handshake would have been proper 'protocol'.  Let's throw this into reverse.  If the British queen comes to America, shouldn't she bow to the President and the First Lady?
These are equal Heads of States. Period.  Handshakes are appropriate.  Our US President and his wife showing subservience to an equal Head of State is not

I may be mistaken but I have no recollection of bowing being any part of greeting protocol for  the POTUS or his wife.

Selection number 4:  "No, the rules about royal protocol are hugely outdated."
I completely agree.  Having severed our attachment to the British Empire, we are under no obligation to follow any British protocol or to act subservient to British monarchy.  Period.

You also have no attachments to this country.

Do you need not show respect for the King, Buddhism,  and anthem?

Likewise we are under no obligation to refer to former POTUS as 'Mr President' either but have the grace to toe that particular line despite finding it a little odd.

(Blair & Brown are still 'mister'!)

HM is far more easy going than you may think. She apparently enjoyed meeting the Trumps and was not at all put out. You should remember the Obamas also only shook hands with her, as would most Americans. They are not generally in the business of bowing and scraping to the British monarchy. Donald T did momentarily walk in front of HM but this was not exactly a major issue. Some of you people really need to try to grow up a bit.

You limie lot colonized a quarter of the planet. And tried to turn all of China into opium addicts. So what are you on about?

Well, that was the way of the world back then, at least the Western world. For the past 70 years the US has been engaged in financial colonization, for the most part. Britain was heavy handed, and the East India Company had a near virtual franchise, from the monarchs for a couple of centuries. They were responsible for some rather nasty actions in India, and some of the other colonies.Though it is highly incorrect, politically to suggest such a thing, many would agree that Thailand might have benefitted from the access to good education, the infrastructure, the awareness of the outside world, creative thinking, and a few other aspects that the colonialists brought to the table. The occupation by Japan was too short, and the Japanese had no interest at the time, in offering the Thais anything beneficial, other than minor protection, once the Thais surrendered, and accepted occupation, after the battle of Prachuap Khiri Khan.

I think we can just chalk it up to awareness in general.   She is the queen, you do not forget where she is.   He also turned his back to her and he did not bother to bow or lower his head.  He also showed up 10 minutes late.

The rules may be stiff, but they exist for a reason, and that reason establishes that we have respect for both the person and the position.   She showed her respect by allowing him to have visit her at Windsor.   It would have been nice for him to return the respect.

Why would he have to Bow to her Or Lower His Head? Ain't we All Equal,,,,,By the way She din't cost Anymore to make than anyone on Earth,,,,,

While one might think that if one thought that Singapore was typical and credited the British rather than Lee Kuan Yew for their success, but there's also Burma.

Quite frankly they should abolish the British monarchy, and kick all the royal freeloaders out, and make them work for a living.

Nothing but a bunch of leeches of society, doing absolutely nothing.

Don't sit on the fence, are you for or against the monarchy? ??

Don't know if you are a Brit but the monarchy’s annual contribution to the UK economy is to be around £1.8bn a year.

Get over it, he won the election. So It doesn’t matter what thousands of UK protocol experts correctly think. Trump thinks he is polite. Everything else is “fake news”

So you're saying there is such thing as objective truth? Only "trump" truth. Sounds like an extreme case of GASLIGHT poisoning.

The queen is head of state and so is Trump. They are equal and he does not have to bow to her.

He was there to inspect the troops, she wasn’t donthat she was just accompanying him.

So he made a mistake and stood in front of her. No big deal

Trump IS a vulgarian. I don’t like him. Yes he lies constantly and is an embarrassment, does it matter anymore? I’m not the kind of idiot right winger who criticizes people bowing! For Christ sakes you meet the Emperor of Japan (Obama) what are you supposed to do ???!

Obama was a very polite President with a perfect family and no scandals, who, unfortunately is a a born and bred anti-western “Dreams of my Father” Mao-Mao ideologue whose sole goal was to subvert the United States to a mirror image of a socialist ideal. A system that has failed in every country that it has ever been attempted. Hillary Clinton is much of the same plus venality. A person whose entire career is built on lies and corruption. If I was a Liberal I would no way ever ever ever be able to forgive her and the Democrats for what they did to Bernie Sanders, who probably could have beat Trump if he had been nominated.

I’ll stick with Republicans as they look out for me. I don’t want my tax money going to failed health care/social programs, and welfare layabouts. “Objective truth” is a philosophical concept, I’d rather keep my money’s in my pocket, not for foreign fake Asylum migrants and their offsprings.

The concept of immigrants, homeless, unemployed sucking the teat of the government is blown out of proportion. Most people who use gov't services get off it as soon as they can.

Do people cheat, yes.

Do many people need it yes.

It is the responsibility of a civilized society to help its downtrodden.

The US mentality that any socialist policy is nasty, will result in the US never having a universal healthcare plan like the rest of the civilized world.

Hilarious.
First you say you don't like him.
Then you go on a rant about the reasons that you do support him.
Just own it for Christ's sake.
We see this so often here.
Obvious Putin poodle supporters that fake not being one.
I get it.
It's a shameful and embarrassing thing to support.

But she is head of state in 16 countries.  Doesn't that outrank him?
