Advise needed on buying a motorbike. Help plz.

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Im staying on one of the Gulf of Thailand island's. Had arrived 11 days ago, and planning to stay for at least three months, using my eempt entry visa.

As police here started asking for green books for motorbikes, I would like to buy a bike with papers.

I have found one in Bkk and owner told me I might have residence certificate.

I have read on the forum that there are two main ways to get it; through immigration office, and by my home country embassy.

Immigration office is in Samui. Do you think showing residence certificate paper from Samui in Bkk will work?

Does it mean big paperwork buying a motorbike in Bkk to bring it to the island?

Any other advise will help.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Farangland

What is a "eempt entry visa"?

Misspelled "visa exempt entry"?

Three months?

Would require one extension and one border run?

What a hassle. Being on Samui, buying a motorbike in Bangkok and moving it (which might cost you 3000+).

I hope you don't want to ride it down to the ferry from Bangkok??

If rental on Samui is too expensive you could try your luck on the mainland (Surat Thani).

Bringing it with the ferry shouldn't cost a fortune?

But Bangkok??

And what to do with it when you leave?

The buying of the bike it not the problem. You need documentation if you want to register it in your name. Recently there was a thread about this here (last couple of weeks)

If you need it only for three months, and in low season, I would try to make a deal with one of the bike renting companies. Just make sure you don't end up paying for a brand new bike for all the "damage" you did over a couple of months.

Misspelled "visa exempt entry" ?

Due to my nationality Im granted three months. Planning to stay longer. That's reason Im thinking on buying one.

Would try to find thread about motorbike registration. Thanks.

Due to my nationality I got 3 months visa eepmt entry. Letter " " not working on my board.

Yes, I know would cost around 4000 + to bring it from Bkk. I got time, and like riding. So that is not an issue.

Then I will keep it, as Im planning to stay longer.

What kind of bike are you looking for?
Scooter...rice rocket...cruiser? Makes a difference on where to buy it.
Also....please, please, please wear a helmet. Samui is the most dangerous place to ride a bike in the most dangerous country to ride a bike.
Best of luck and pm me if you need any help as I live on Samui.
