ok maybe  cure is the wrong word, its been scientifically proven you can 'Reverse' type 2 diabetes with a whole foods plant based diet

Not the way I reversed it, but if it works then no reason to knock it.

Bananas and mangos , very high sugar content.  Also watch for the juice (shakes) they almost always add alot of sugar water.

The sugar in fruits is  mainly fructose NOT glucose. Diabetes is having high glucose levels.

ok after refreshing my memory a bit, yes most people probably can't cure their  type 2 diabetes, but can significantly improve their symptoms and lower their medications with a healthy diet (mainly whole foods plant based), some lucky people can reverse it and stop taking their meds but only some, not everyone is that lucky.

Some people - in fact, quite a few - can eliminate the need for medication through good diet and exercise. That is not a "reversal" of diabetes.  They are still diabetic, but controlled through diet and exercise.

Neither potato nor pasta have much (or any) natural sugars. They are both high in carbohydrate.

Sugars are also carbohydrates.

There are 2 types of carbs: sugars and starches.  Starches are slightly more complex molecules but break down quickly into sugars.

Intake of both sugars and starches (i.e. all carbs) need to be controlled in diabetics.

I should have said the potatoes are high in starch

in fact there are 3 main types of carbohydrate in our diet they are all saccharides a group that includes sugarsstarch, and cellulose.

We have very little, to no, need for refined sugar or food high in starch in our normal diet. That is of course excepting diabetics on medication or insulin injections.

You cannot "cure" diabetes

That rather depends on the cause, if you have Insulin resistant diabetes connected with diet and weight, you then change your diet and manage to reduce your weight some people can stop being insulin resistant. In those cases most people would say that the diabetes had been cured.

Sure if you then gain a lot of weight and or go back to an unhealthy diet you will probably become Insulin resistant again and diabetec again.

Out of control diabetes is high risk, so rather than self medicate arrange a review with a specialist for your husband. Can I suggest you post your city / town and 'Sherryl' should be able to recommend one or two specialists to contact

That's the problem.

We are in bkk thailand.

And my husband is mentally ill as well.

I have really tried to find a support person to advise us but very difficult.

I have read an article of a man who says he "reverses " his diabetes and don't need médecines; I don't remember about his diet, but he said he runs 30 kms a week ( it's very much, not every body can do it )

the problem is simple : SUGAR in all forms

pure white, in bread, in pasta, in beer, in your soda

don't go for FAKE chemical sugar either

insulin is the problem that is spiked by sugar

FASTING is the solution

skip breakfast as a start , try it a few days

than try to skip lunch also

go for OMAD :  one meal a day and bye bye diabetes

but you still need to quit sugar, if you don't want all the complications like blindness, amputation, etc...

metformin lowers your glucose reading, but not your INSULIN LEVELS

diabetes type 2 is an insulin RESISTANCE problem that you cannot "help" with more insulin...

if a balloon is full, you are not going to help it with FORCING more air into the balloon.... the balloon is your fat cell in this case an insulin is forcing SUGAR into the cell, while the cell say, F OFF , I am full, I don't want anymore...

intermittant fasting (skipping breakfast) keeps your insulin levels lower for long, a fast for 7 days will make you possobly not needing medication anymore as the pancreas starts to heal

MD's love to say you cannot cure, as they will lose a customer, that is the sad truth about the SICKCARE not healthcare

your MD might lose his licence if he dares to go out of his BOOK / THINKING and you would DARE to not eat for a week while most people did it for a month or longer "in the old days" before we got all this poison medicine + brainwashed people that believe blindly MD's... I learned my lesson that the system is sick & broken and it is an profit INDUSTRY not healthcare, maybe one day your eyes will be opend too, before diabetes makes you totally blind

have a nice day

What sort of "support person" are you seeking?

Plenty of diabetes specialists in Bangkok, ditto psychiatrists.

if your problem is that your husband will not seek or follow treatment, best thing to do is see a counselor yourself to help you cope with it.

He will get treatment, he has his medicine. But his doctor is not a diabetic specialist and what we are really looking for is a person that can guide us about what foods to eat and how to gain weight with no carbohydrates.

Or a diabetic nutritionist.

But where to find in bkk that's not an expensive private hospital.

Swim. Get in pool every day. Start slow. Add laps each month. (I'm 76 and work up slowly to a mile a day.) Running bad for knees. I've been diabetic for 25 years and am doing fine. Don't be afraid to cheat a bit on your diet. Enjoy! But, on average, eat small amounts throughout the day rather than three big meals. Also, massage lowers sugar levels. Always beware levels getting too low. Carry a glucose tablet or hard candy.

Is yoyr husband Thai or a fluent Thai speaker? As government hospitals are inexpensive and all have diabetic clun7cs/classes...in Thai.

Isn't pomelo, like grapefruit, to be avoided as it negates the effects of diabetes medication?

Pomelo/grapefruit negate the effects of statins which are heart medicines. Do not affect diabetic medications

Most government hospitals offer this. Vajira Hospital is especially well known for this.  (681 Samsen rd). But you could also ask at whatever government hospital he is registered t under the 30 baht scheme or SS.

Wherever you go, need to go in person to ask and be patient, it may take asking several people and being referred from place to place.  Normally patients are referred to classes when first diagnosed.

Start by asking for the diabetes clinic then go to it and ask the nurses there, explaining that though your husband is not newly diagnosed he does nto understand about his diet yet and needs classes. Will likely have to see a doctor first and then get referred.

We are in the same boat age wise and following a life full of sport,30  years of competive football (soccer) squash ,tennis, cricket etc my knees are shot and the pool is my saviour. I can no longer walk more than a 1/2 km without pain

I have proved to myself that the aerobic exercises and laps I do in the pool lower my BP by about 10% and diabetes figs.If miss a week they go back up

We are inded fortunate that  you can swim all year round,no excuses.
