Video: Pick-up hits 30 million baht McLaren - one of only three in Thailand

Dash cam footage from a road in Bang Pakong leading to Chonburi showed a pick-up truck collide with one of the most expensive cars on Thailand's roads.

It is a McLaren 720S that Daily News said is one of only three in Thailand and is worth more than 30 million baht.

A source told Daily News Online that the McLaren and a Mercedes Benz had been racing - but the Benz was no match for the "super car".

It whizzed past Werayut Kaewkaew who said he was doing about 110-120kmph.

Werayut posted the footage on Facebook and it received much comment in Thailand.

A Toyota Camry was also damaged in the collision.

But the Benz avoided any damage, so that driver wins ?   All 3 were driving like <deleted> anyway... No sympathy at all..

What a fuss. A couple of scratches on the bumper. A little paint, buff and polish, sorted.

It's a total ride off that's why he's not upset, insurance will pay him out the 30 Million in about a weeks time?

  • Popular Post

total write off ??

Must be fun riding this kind of car in TIT roads.. I already feel sorry for my bimmer..

Not surprisingly for supercars in Thailand the insurers won't insure for full value.

My bet is the pickup doesn't have 1st class or as we say comprehensive cover either. The Wai must have worked nicely.

P(r)ick - up driver.

Would have loved to see the reaction of the McLaren owner.

and let me guess now.. the pick up is not even insured, as many cars on thai roads aren't...

Nothing to do with fast driving. The McLaren had stopped when the pickup hit it

A couple thousand baht at the neighborhood body shop and all is well

If the owner can afford a 30m car then he can afford to have the car repaired.

As for the pickup driver deciding to swerve into the next lane instead of braking; no words needed.

I think if he didn't hit the Mc Laren he would of hit the other car

Pickup put his breaks on way to late

Somchai in the pickup got all steamed when his girlfriend gushed over the beautiful sports car, so Somchai tried to keep up to show his pickup was just as good.

It wasn't.

Somchai failed.

'Super-cars' are fitted with super carbon fibre brakes so would stop far quicker than a Pickup

The McLaren had stopped well clear of the car in front of him. The pickup clearly at fault will be penalized on his insurance , if he has such. Meanwhile the McLaren owner will "ride off" at excessive speed to his next destination.

No use when the foot is attached to a feeble inattentive mind.

This is a perfect example of why normal drivers shouldn't be subject to the liability of having to pay for someone else's $$$$ toy in case of an accident.

The tone here would be real different if it was a TVF'er who is on the hook to repair a 30 million baht vehicle- with a perfectly reasonable 10 million in insurance cover.  It could tie you up in court cases for years.

If someone's going to drive a vehicle that's worth 10x what a typical driver will make in a lifetime, other drivers should be indemnified for any coverage above a reasonable amount for repairing it if there's an accident.  Sure, all drivers should be required to have insurance, but there's no way they can reasonably be expected to cover a 30 million baht vehicle.

And yes, I'm sure the pickup driver will be let off because you can't get blood out of a turnip.  But what if it was a foreign retiree with a significant nest egg?

Putting a governer on a car or motorbike can be dangerous. Sometimes you just might need that power to get out of trouble.

Of course, limited to 15-20 seconds before fuel topping occurs.

Maximum sustained output 100kpH

Future, roads will be fixed with smart speed sensors to improve safety and traffic flow.

you are right. this happens to me on my motorcycle all the time with little waves and clicks racing past me to prove they can.

It's OK. Always a nice view of their girlfriend. :clap2:

No vehicle like that should be allowed on public roads, only race-tracks

Ok, lets consider the Camry driver too.

Absolutely no involvement from the Mclaren Driver, but the pickup driver sure <deleted> his day too.

Maybe he "can afford to fix it' like some suggest of the McLaren driver, but it's Not Ok!
