Business leaders hailed the actions of the government after the mobile cabinet meeting held in Chumpon announced the creation of the "Chumpon Riviera".

It is part of upgrades and building of the coastal road that will link Petchaburi with Songkhla in the far south.

The government have said they want to develop the area into a world class area for tourism.

The mobile cabinet meeting held this week agreed to spend a budget on the four lane road. Daily News said it will bring prosperity to the region.

Business leader Sakchai Sriyutthakrai said it was exciting news that would develop land near the road and boost the economy.

Preecha Butjan former head of the lawyer's council in Lang Suan near Chumpon said that it would give the people there a chance to create a popular tourist area that could rival anywhere in Thailand.

That could mean the "Chumpon Riviera" becoming a competitor for more established beach resorts like Pattaya.

Why do Thais keep referring to Pattaya as a beach resort??? There's no beach there unless you like swimming in brown toxic water with turds floating about.

Chumpon is also another major waste dumping area as many parts of the beach are long ways from the main highway. I went there a few years back and there were three enormous pipes running through some private properties down onto the beach and into the water.  God only knows what was being pumped into the Gulf.

...... complete with ladyboys, jetski scams, a walking street, go-go bars, pool orgies, and the usual "high quality tourists" all imported from Pattaya, Patong and Patpong by the usual local and overseas mafia, overseen by the BIB .....

Sounds like you could be part of the entertainment  planning team, when do you want to start?

In fact I have no doubt it will become the Hub of world class resort areas in the mind of the delusional leader ?

Its too far and nothing sets it apart from pattaya or island destinations, keep on dreaming.

Well apart from having the most beautiful beaches in the country and airport, you're right.

This hasn’t come from one meeting it has been talked about for years. Seems to be aiming for domestic tourism in the main. I hope nothing much comes of it as i like chumphon just the way it is.
