PARIS (Reuters) - Two people were killed and one seriously wounded in a knife attack in the Paris suburb of Trappes, French authorities said.

The knife attacker was then shot dead by police.

"The police operation is over ... the person was neutralised and is dead," the local prefecture said on Twitter.

Islamic State issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack. BFM TV said the attacker shouted "Allahu akbar", but police could not immediately confirm it.

One Interior ministry source said the victims might be relatives of the attacker and police are looking into whether it was a family quarrel.

"The reason behind the attack and his profile are not known yet and are being looked into," another source said.

Counter-terrorism officials have yet to be asked to join the investigation, a judicial source said.

Trappes is an underprivileged town situated in an overall wealthy area west of Paris. Dozens of radicalised youths from the town of about 30,000 habitants have left for Syria.

Islamic State claims Paris suburb knife attack

CAIRO (Reuters) - Islamic State claimed a knife attack in a Paris suburb on Thursday, saying one of its members had carried out the assault, but provided no evidence.

An online statement from the group's Amaq news agency said the attacker was an "Islamic State fighter".

The attack in Trappes killed one person and wounded two others, police said.

At some point we have to decide to introduce sharia in our western civilization to prevent such attacks.

In for a penny, in for a Pound.

Sent from a so called Smartphone using an App.

The murder took place in the flat of the mother after a heated argument (neighbors already called police [too late]).

On the flight he severely injured a woman on the street. Why?

He hid in some house and was found and shot dead.

You do realise that once Sharia law is implemented it can never be undone. It will be in force for ever. Who in a western Society would ever wish that upon themselves.

He killed his mother and sister(!) and injured some passerby before being shot dead. Three dead in total.

He was known as a potential Islamist threat.

He had "mental" issues.

And now decide whether this was:

1) a family related personal affair

2) honor killing

3) a terrorist attack

4) an outbreak of a mentally ill

I vote for 2 + 4.

Hopefully we'll find out very soon, but as he killed his mother and sister (☹️), before going on to injure passers by - it's quite likely a combination of all four to one degree or another.

If his attack was initially directed at his mother and sister - I doubt 'a terrorist attack' (in the normal understanding of the term) was the initial motivation.

But it's all speculation at this point.

I think we shouldn't speculate about it. Please keep in mind right now Muslims are celebrating Eid al-Adha.

I only ask for some respect for our Muslim friends.

Peace.
