Can I Legally Buy A Car In Thailand?

Featured Replies

I read in another post that if you have a yellow "Tabian Baan" you can get a Thai driver's license and also buy a car.

How about someone like myself that is single and renting a condo or house and staying in LOS on a Retirement visa?

I don't think I would qualify for a Tabian Baan document. How do I buy a car (paying cash) and get a driver's license if I do move to Thailand?

Here in the Philippines anyone can get a driver's license and buy a car ... don't take any special document ... In fact, you can buy a car (new or used) if you only have a Tourist visa and of course have cash!

Thanks,

Ron

You can buy the car and obtain drivers license using address verification paper from Immigration or from your Embassy.

Have a read of this page from one of ThaiVisa's sponsors, Expat Motors Ltd. Unfortunately no mention of people holding Retirement Visas.

Thank's everyone for the response ... That link has very good info.

Ron,

I always thought you had to have a one year visa to register a car or motorcycle, anyone on a tourist visa done this as per the expat motors page?

you can obtain a thai drivers licence on a multi 'o' visa once you get the forms from thai immergration and a doc's letter
