Rimmer Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Smoking ban to keep tourists from getting intoxicated at beaches PATTAYA:--Bangkok, 28 August 2018 – The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) confirmed that the smoking prohibition at beaches which will reduce waste from cigarette filters and keep tourists from getting intoxicated. The DMCR raised concerns over the smoking of cigarettes at beaches as the filters are the most commonly found type of garbage found on the beaches, while chemicals from cigarettes such as nicotine, arsenic, pesticides, and carcinogens can contaminate water and affect aquatic animals. DMCR Director-General Jatuporn Buruspat said some 100,000 pieces of cigarettes have littered each of Thailand’s beaches, leading to the launch of the smoking-free beach campaign at 24 famous beaches such as Bang Saen in Chonburi, Pathong in Phuket, and Hua Hin in Parchuap Khiri Khan. Is it from this century? From Jomtien beach before the big tree slaughtering. Saving from getting intoxicated in Pattaya on a beach. Most nidicolous attempt to justify this nonsense. 3 2 2
mommysboy Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Getting intoxicated! What do they mean by that? I do agree with the ban though because of the littering, but it should go for anything that causes litter on the beach- candy, beer cans, tissues, cocktail sticks, plastic containers. I thought the sea around this area was contaminated anyway. it's good there are smoking zones. I guess all the complainers will sit in and around them and complain about the smokers! 1
Popular Post mommysboy Posted August 31, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 31, 2018 Even twenty years ago my local council used to clean the beach every evening: there was quite a bit of litter, including syringes, and broken glass. I wonder, do they actually bother that much in Pattaya. It is the obvious thing to do. A thriving business needs a bit of upkeep. Having a few more bins around might even help. 5 2

Is this mild way of saying you would'd to see food banned ion the beaches? 3 minutes ago, mommysboy said: Even twenty years ago my local council used to clean the beach every evening: there was quite a bit of litter, including syringes, and broken glass. "Having a few more bins around might even help." I wouldn't restrict their placement to just beaches. 1

It's just that laws must be applied fairly imo.

Popular Post Lupatria Posted August 31, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 31, 2018 I'd rather expect to become intoxicated by taking a dip in the sewage at the world class beaches. 4

Popular Post tomacht8 Posted August 31, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 31, 2018 Smoking ban to keep tourists from getting intoxicated at beaches. Bull. If anything stinks on the beach, it's dog shit, garbage bags, not emptied trash cans and speedboat- / jet-ski fumes. 4 1
Popular Post DoctorG Posted August 31, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 31, 2018 So, if you do not smoke you cannot get intoxicated? Great news! 1 3

Actually, I think they do not bother at all. Many a time I used to go to the each and see the litter in front of the deck chairs. I would think that anyone with a deck chair business in Pattaya would at least clean up the beach in front of their concession. Sadly, that is rarely so. I can care less if they allow smoking or not on the toxic beaches of Pattaya. I do not go there anymore!
Sydebolle Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 How considerate of the law makers. The BiB will benefit most in little non-receiptable payments for not getting reported. Follow the law = live healthy, bending it a little = live rich!
jesimps Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Banning Thai tourists from descending on the place at weekends would greatly help the litter situation. 1
Jonmarleesco Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Sorry, the connection between smoking - which I'm more than happy to see banned on the beaches (in public, period) - and getting p____d eludes me.

Can't - or couldn't - not can or could, the implication being that you care as little as possible.
