The "Shut Up and Ride" motorcyclist gang in Chiang Mai has been praised on Facebook for feeding homeless people every Friday night.

Leader Patchara Mayerku said the group leader was carrying out the activities for five weeks and has inspired groups in other provinces to follow suit.

Patchara posted photos and stories of charity activities on Facebook, which have been widely shared.

He said the group was formed to ride out every evening to enjoy sunset views of Chiang Mai.

Then they started gathering and donating gifts to poor hill-tribe children but they found it was inconvenient to ride that far.

The group eventually decided to hand out food, water and medicine to homeless people in central Chiang Mai, Patchara said.

Motorcyclists from elsewhere had contacted the group to join the activities but Patchara recommended they help the homeless in their provinces instead.

A lot of the homeless people in places like Chaing Mai and Pattaya suffer mental problems .While it is good to hear of people helping out with food the real problem of mental health needs to be addressed more by the Thai authorities to help these unfortunate people return to society .

Moped gang.

Call them what you want. At least these bikes seem not to have "modified" or nonexistent mufflers, compared to other moron "big bike" riders in the city.

While I extol the virtue of this "motorcycle gang", which, as pointed out by another comment maker, is only a small motorcycle riding "club", it is dangerous to hand out medications in a willy-nilly fashion by untrained personnel.  Also, no mention of the drugs provided.  Why does only one in three have a crash helmet, and he's giving out the food to the only other person on the street, except for the other two "gang" members?

Nothing new if you're old enough to remember the UK in the late '50s and early '60s.

There were the Rockers and the Mods. The Rockers were later personified by the Stones - the Mods by the Beatles.

The Rockers had their big kick-ass Harleys. Triumphs, and BSAs;  the Mods had their little scooters.

If you live long enough you see that everything old is new again.
