Chiang Rai police intercepted an attempt to smuggle 12 million methamphetamine pills and 521 kilograms of crystal meth or “ice” early on Wednesday but the drug mule got away.

Police from the Mae Chan station spotted a pickup truck approaching and then speeding away from their checkpoint on a road from the Myanmar border in Ban Therdthai village in Mae Fa Luang district.

When the pickup driver saw the checkpoint, he reversed at high speed, attempted to make a U-turn and plunged into a ditch.

Police caught up with the stuck truck after the driver had run and disappeared into the dark forest beside the road.

Officers found 63 bags on the back of the pickup, containing an estimated 12.42 million meth pills along with 13 bags of ice weighing 521 kilograms.

Oops . sorry boss.

Former Mule, present runner who has not been caught by his former mafia boss.

  Life in Thailand, Amazing!

Geezer

With a haul that size I would have thought the right wheels would have been greased.

Glad to see the checkpoint was effective. The mule escaping is inconsequential. He was

just small fry.

Hmm,..did you ever noticed the amount of drugs ceased almost at a daily basis ?!..the same amount if not larger passes without a hindrance at the same rate !!! I think they (Drug Cartels) calculate the risk of loosing big amounts !!! if bigger amounts get throe !!!

Yes indeed - how much more could have crossed the Mekong into Laos whilst this load was being intercepted.
