Got a superficial paint mark on my door. Can run my fingernail across without it catch. Tempted to use some solution, but i'm afraid it might ruin the car paint. Anyone knows of some good remover that does the job and is safe to use?

Agree, a cutting compound would be best. Any solvent capable of removing the paint will damage the paint underneath.

You might even get it off with some polish ...take care using anything else. Scratch removers are a big NO NO and T-Cut can be a little harsh if you are not careful .........

If you can't feel it then a good car polish will sort it with a bit of elbow grease..

Just stay away from cheap stuff with silicone in it....The price of a polish usually tells all...See whats available in stores where you live, then google their stuff and see what it says. Many will state "will remove minor scratches", thats the type you want...

Whatever you use it'll take the clear coat off. I had a scratch on my last Tuna door didn't bother with compounding it just got it resprayed cost 1.600bt to do the whole door. Looked liked new when done. Just one problem lost lump for the two days it took them to do it.

If you go to a decent repair place they will colour match perfectly. My Vigo was silver had to have a new front nearside wing (Some d/ck head opened his door as I drove passed) colour match was perfect. Had the bonnet (Hood) on my last white tuna 7 years old done as well had some small dents on the front of it. Took bonnet off sorted dents and resprayed again looked like new. Cost for that was 2,200bt cheap as chips.

As I said, clear coat is there to cut small blemishes without touching the colour..If a scratch has entered the paint then a different matter..

No need for painting if the clear coat only has a scratch, can be polished out easily in a few minutes that costs nothing but a tin of polish..

Clear coat is there to protect the paint and give it a nice shiny affect. Yes you can rub out small scratches. But it Will remove the clear coat as I have said, and expose the paint so it will never have the same finish. Once gone it's gone. Why go to all the bother to try and remove scratch just repaint it. That's of cause you want to save a couple off BT

Question dose using rubbing compound take the clear coat off Yes Or No???

You are not going to remove the clear coat easily. Using the correct polish will not harm it at all. Do you think all the people with expensive custom paint work respray every time they get a scratch ? I have seen decent resprays here but mostly bad as far as my eye can see.

Who uses rubbing compound on a clearcoat finish ? Guess someone with no knowledge of automotive paint work would.

Wish you would tell that to TA. It was ok on old Lumps that didn't have a clear coat but modern lumps paint work is a different kettle of fish.

Every polish I can think of has an abrasive in it to take out minor scratches..It says so on the tin...

Maybe in thailand they do, but not in the us where products like mothers and meguiars have long ago quit making those kind of abrasive products for modern car paint finishes.

Where is the place that cost that little?

I am always quoted much, much more.

one of the things I cannot understand in Thailand is the insistance that they have to repaint the whole car or at least whole section of the car to fix a single scratch....with corresponding high price and many days wait, car-less.

In Cambodia they can repaint the area of a  scratch itself in a few hours time only, dirt cheap and perfect color match, looks like new. Here (or at least every place I have asked), they insist they cannot. ???

As a result I have over the years amassed a number of scratches (into the paint surface) scattered about the car here and there. I would love to get them painted but not at the 30,000 baht price/2 week timeframe that everyplace I have asked quotes me....

It's nothing peculiar to the color of my car, have had this experience for 3 successive cars over the years all of different colors.

If a scratch is in the clear coat it can be taken out with polish..Done it for years..Custom paint jobs have a zillion coats of clear coat so blemishes can be taken out without affecting the paint job..

I live in Kamphaeng Phet. Halfway between BKK and Chang Mai. Have used two repair shops one for wing the other for door and Bonnet (Hood) both because they were recommended by my insurance. Sorry you cant get anything done on your Lumps might be where you live. N/B neither of them will just spray in a scratch they will only repaint the whole panel.

I'm not talking scratches in the clear coat, Trans. Scratches through the paint coat itself.

Different matter...On this thread I have been trying to help the OP with a simple fix without all the "must repaint crap"...

They for your information have Two coats of clear coat (look it up) Once gone it's gone and will leave you with just the paint that will never have the same high finish, even after putting wax on it. Might look ok at first but once the wax has gone you'll be back to square 1

Total rubbish....Now who gets a clear coat scratch in the same place twice....Million to one....?

So YOU reckon folk with a minor blemish on their BMW go gets it resprayed...????

My guess on cambodia is they are more open to the import of western technology and knowledge giving them the ability to import/match paint brands/colors and techniques in using them. I always liked the khmers in that if a westerner came in and wanted to start a business and share their knowledge they are welcomed with open arms unlike here where its the thai way or the highway.
