The iconic Ford Mustang was unveiled for the first time in Thailand on Thursday by Wichit Wongwatthanakan, managing director of Ford Thailand.

The sleek, fast and technologically-advanced Mustang delivers more athletic styling, sophisticated engine and suspension enhancements, advanced driver assistance features and more customisation options for Thai customers of the legendary sports car.

The Mustang is offered in two variants: the 5.0L V8 GT Coupe Performance Pack for Bt4,799,000 and the 2.3L EcoBoost Coupe Performance Pack for Bt3,599,000.

The Mustang is available for bookings at 19 authorised dealerships in greater Bangkok and select provinces across the country.

So for 4.8 mill you can have a real performance motor yet for 1.2 mill less you can a have it with the Mickey Mouse Engine. No comparison really.  But is it right hand drive as there is nothing on the Ford website about it currently ?

Yes, RHD the same as in other RHD markets (UK already)

Not doubting you but where did you read the Thai spec for it ?

A friend of mine tried to buy one in the UK a few years ago but was told that they didn't make a RHD model and had no plans to do so. Has this changed?

The picture that accompanies the OP may help you with that question.

Why would that help ? Grey imports in RHD version are common for many vehicles ?

I was asking as to whether the Ford Thailand official site had the Thai spec in order to answer my question.  So guess even the MD of Thailand would have ensured his own website was updated.

You asked if it was RHD and that was the only thing that you asked.   The launch photo with the MD clearly shows that they are RHD, that's why it would help.  Ford Thailand do not do grey imports!

My question "But is it right hand drive as there is nothing on the Ford website about it currently ?". So the fact remains that without a Ford Thailand specification you are relying on a photograph ? Sorry but I prefer to see an in-country  specification

Yes, I know, you asked if it was RHD.  But you please yourself, I'd be happy to rely on what was presented at the official launch by the MD of Ford Thailand which was much more than a photograph.

Why not let us know your thoughts about the Mustang after you've taken delivery of your RHD model?

Well if anybody buys one in Thailand without access to an official Ford Thailand specification then I would question their intelligence.

There have been grey market imports for some time, these are all RHD models originally for the UK.

Ford Thailand have now decided to officially bring in the car.

Do a google search for 'Ford confirms Mustang for Thailand' and you'll find an article about the cars and their spec.

Now that the V8 is available at 1/3 of the price of the new BMW M5, it is tempting.
Unfortunately the engine has no turbos.

The 2018 Ford Mustang Starts at $25,585, GT Costs $35,095

The EcoBoost is actually cheaper than the 2017 model, but the GT's price rises by $2000.

FORD

Yesterday, Ford finally released some key specs for the 2018 Mustang and we were impressed. The GT gets 460 horsepower and sprints to 60 mph in under four seconds, but Ford didn't announce how much it'd cost. Today, the 2018 Mustang configurator just went live on Ford's website, and with it, pricing. The four-cylinder EcoBoost starts at $25,585, while the V8-powered GT is $35,095.

For reference, the 2017 Mustang EcoBoost started at $26,000 and the GT was $33,000—that makes the new, base EcoBoost slightly cheaper than before, while the GT is $2000 dearer. Adding the Premium package to the EcoBoost costs a little over $5000, while it's just $4000 for the GT.

If you want a droptop Mustang, the EcoBoost Convertible starts at $31,085, and the GT Convertible—which is only available with the Premium Package—starts at $44,595. So, chopping your Mustang's roof off costs $5500, regardless of which engine you chose.

In addition to its revised looks, the 2018 Mustang gets a new, optional 10-speed automatic transmission that's currently used in the F-150 Raptor. On both models, this gearbox commands a $1600 premium. The EcoBoost doesn't get a power increase, but torque rises from 320 lb-ft to 350 lb-ft, and when equipped with the automatic, it runs to 60 mph in under five seconds.

We're most interested in the updated, $4000 Performance Package for the GT. In addition to sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, the GT Performance Package gets optional, $1700 MagneRide dampers similar to those used on the Shelby GT350. These dampers work wonders in any car they're installed in, and promise big handling improvements for the Mustang.

The Performance Package is available for the EcoBoost too for just $2500, and you can option MagneRide Dampers for $1700 too. Both the EcoBoost and GT get a new Drag Strip mode to help with straight-line performance, while the V8-powered car gets an optional performance exhaust. And now, you can order the Performance Package on any Mustang—previously it was only available for manual-transmission hardtops.

A bit more than double the price.

It's nice to read what's on offer: all that styling, power, sophistication, athleticism and so forth.

My question: are they up to standard to maintain all this correctly?

I think losing that class action lawsuit on the transmission debacle answers your question.

Sitting with a Non Car Fan yesterday,  Army Humvee came past. "Bet thats got a Fiesta Eco Boost in it". Perhaps it was the Leo, but it made me laugh.

Any fast car is of no use here because of the desperate status of the highways, the traffic density and their driving behaviour.

I hardly understood at home in Germany why people need a powerful or fast car.
Well at least you can drive on the autobahn with no speed limit but it is straight so doesn't make any sense nor fun...

There is no question that those trannys in the cafe cars were an abortion. They were developed because of US govt interference AND the fact that in the USA folks dont know how to drive sticks anymore.

On the otherhand, The Mustang is a high quality, superfast, nice handling vehicle. Screw the eco boost, give me natural aspiration. But regardless, its way too much for Thai roads. Punch it and it will sink your nuts into the seat.
