  • Probably not , that group of people are likely to have legitimate visas .

  • Agree. The guys from EU, USA etc who are on overstay are more likely to be living quietly somewhere low profile and not in their 20's/30's hanging around in groups in public view.

Which is exactly what I am pointing out and you know this. This group is being targeted specifically because of their race. They made a bad decision to come here and now stuck in hotel California it just gets continually worse and worse and their is not a happy ending for them. They’re criminals and they’ll be the first to tell you how regretful they are for coming here. I’m not defending them of their criminality, I’m defending them because no one else will.

The thais who invited this behavior here to make money have found another source and 1000’s of people are left. Being without rights or protection make them easy marks for the coorupt police. If you want to have your stomach turned go to lumphini police station tonight around 4 am. It sickens me.

Thats why I’m an apologist and defend them

Racial profiling is an effective tool in law enforcement.

So for example, if Immigration look at the stats and say "7 out of every 10 Africans we question in Nana

have broken some type of law", does it not make sense to target them".

That's not racism, that's good policing.

Another one who has no idea how law enforcement works????

Always falls back on the racist or bigotry card when can't mount a valid argument.

Is it not Thai government responsibility to tighten visa criteria / assessment for those source countries nationals who have a high ratio of breaching visa conditions - makes more sense.

Yes, anyone should be able to come in and stay as long as they want.

In every country in the world.

What makes you think that people staying long on tourist visas are being affected, where did you come up with that?

I am staying long on tourist visas and that's not what concerns me, they can bl#w me as far as I am concerned since I am not on overstay.

It's the vibe of a nanny state I am having a problem with, along with racial profiling, this coming from one of the most corrupted institutions, Royal Thai Police, and a non democratic administration.

It's their country

I generally disapprove of racial profiling but it works in some circumstances. My experience in Nana are the young African men are not buying beers and ST the Thai women.  They are selling drugs and selling fake products and pick pockets. So as a Nana visitor I am happy to see them clean up the area. In this area the young African men seem to be there working illegally or stealing illegally and they need to be checked and deported if illegal. I would feel the same if the group was identified as white Americans or Brits or .... but in this case the young black Africans are the trouble in Nana so makes sense to check them and not check every single Expat.

so nana area? were hundreds of old white guys rounded up to have their passports checked or just those fitting the 'profile' in the picture?

There aren't hundreds of old white guys sitting around Nana anymore, the almost self satirical opening of a hooters on the soi was the death knell to any fun to be had there.

Ah ok.

Now that you've said that, I feel much better, and getting much less of that negative vibe i was getting yesterday ????

It's a problem in many Western countries - but at least the Thai's have the balls to do something about it. Respect.

Difference is, the old white guys aren’t peddling coke and crystal meth? In the Nana area, the profile fits...

I think this is as much about corruption as it is soley immigration issues.

Just how many were found/suspected to have "bought" their stay ?

You can buy retirement extension from Thaivisa for stay so what's illegal about that.

I'm kind of getting tired of this pre election "we want to look good" nationalistic abuse.

They are just taking people off the street because it's picture time.

I also don't agree with, "well if you haven't done anything wrong, it doesn't affect you" logic.

Several options are available to you, from giving TV a break for a while, to a more radical, don't get a re-entry permit, one way will do!

Dont get how people are calling racial profiling with this?

Sounds very straightforward to me, police go into the high crime area and arresting criminals and others up to no good.

If a white guys is there, loitering and looking suspicious, police will most likely check them to and ask what they are doing im sure.

No, the guys they are going after are not just someone who overstay a few weeks.

they are the ones breaking several laws..

overstay, work without permit, illegal and fake visa or passport, illegal entry to the country, selling drugs or other illegal stuff, pimping out girls..on and on

and probable lots of other illegal stuff we dont even know about.

that is a big bag of illegal right there, enough to get you in big doo-doo in anyones country.

EXACTLY the problem. Thai inferiority complex. Black faces not welcome here. Please mail your checks in and we will consider your request. Checks are non-refundable, regardless of decision.

Well done police, now about the interview in London. !!! Anything ???.  Nothing in UK press either. Very odd.

Only western ppl make a big deal out of racism. The east and most parts of the world consider it as normal behavior to protect the culture, language and race of a country, many countries (which are the majority) are not multi-cultural. If you don't like racism, perhaps Thailand isn't the place for you.

If that were true in Thailand, then the sale of whitening products would cease together with the nose operations and the breast enlargements etc.

Racial profiled?

What's wrong with racial profiling? It is perfectly legal in Thailand where the police profile people most likely to be illegal. It is also sensible......why drag in a load of old white guys on retirement visas? Oh and by the way, police in the UK and UK use racial profiling as do the immigration looking for terrorists despite it being illegal.....just look at the number of blacks stopped and searched in the US vs whites adjusted for population....oh and the police shoot the blacks there as well.

It's been that opposite actually. The scum in the pic front and center have had a good run over the years. Time to boot them OUT!

One would be naive to assume that they have been operating without the complicity of the Police.

So like, we all know what happens at Nana, but the Police, especially the ones occasionally stationed there, no no, they don't know what's going on.

Valid for every other area under Police monthly "protection".
