BANGKOK, 12th October 2018 (NNT) - The Thai embassy and consulate-general offices in China have had no problem with the issuance of visas to Chinese tourists, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Spokesperson Busadee Santipitaks.

She denied allegations in a video clip that the Thai embassy and consulate-general offices in China had considered limiting the number of visas issued to Chinese tourists due to a shortage of visa stickers.

She said the Thai embassy and consulate-generals are not imposing any restriction on the number of visas issued as a shortage of visa stickers can be overcome with a visa rubber stamp, adding that Thailand's visa offices have never imposed any limitation on the number of passports to be processed.

However, the embassy and consulate-generals might extend the processing time for visas during a period of high demands.

The Thai embassy in China is now working with the Chinese authorities to prosecute the tour company which has allegedly circulated such false information, and is operating at full capacity to proceed with all visa applications, she said.

Tourism association calls for visa fee exemption for Chinese tourists

By The Nation

The Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) plans to urge the tourism minister to exempt Chinese tourists from paying the single-entry visa fee.

Vichit Prakobgosol, president of ATTA, said the measure was necessary to draw Chinese tourists back to the kingdom following a series of unfortunate events that have prompted them to shun Thailand.

The ATTA has previously called on the Tourism Ministry to provide double-entry visas for Chinese tourists at the same cost as a single-entry visa. The proposal was raised after a tour boat with Chinese tourists sank in the sea off Phuket early September.

After the accident, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan blamed the incident on a Chinese firm for allegedly operating the tour boat services in Thailand illegally. His comment enraged many Chinese tourists, who vowed to boycott Thailand.

Vichit said he will put forward the modified proposal when he meets Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat on Thursday.

Vichit said the earlier double-entry visa proposal would not be enough to regain the confidence of Chinese tourists after another incident, where a Chinese man was hit by a security guard at Don Mueang International Airport. Also, Chinese tourists have complained they were required to pay a tip of Bt300 at the immigration counters at the Don Mueang airport.

If the tourism minister disagrees with the single-entry fee exemption, the ATTA will ask him to allow Chinese tourists to get a multiple entry visa at the same cost of a single entry visa. If the proposal is approved, a Chinese tourist will pay Bt1,000 for a multiple entry visa instead of Bt5,000.

However, if the proposal is rejected again, the ATTA will stand by its double-entry visa request that would allow each Chinese tourist to enter the kingdom twice at the cost of Bt1,000, Vichit added.

So when the stickers run out they get a stamp...but those stickers are more safe since they're numbered and registered.

Wait untill the chinese have their own stamp...it will get busy.

Highly intelligent idea. That will make more Chinese visit LOS.

I thought there were more serious problems the Chinese faced not 300 bhat fee.

Any sweetener to go with the exemption, such as couple of nights free accommodation or B2B.M?

double entry visa for chinese, deportation at the airport upon arrival for westerners. chinese have impunity in thailand! double standards for grasshoppers, nothing else.

they dont show one tenth of attention they show the chinese to westerners.

western travelers maybe need to boycott thailand too then until double entry visas granted to them like chinese.

Thailand is a Budhist country and as so everybody is born un-equal because of kharma..
So I guess rasism and discrimination is completely okay....... (From a Thai point of view)

Posts using foreign language have been removed.  English is the only acceptable language anywhere on ThaiVisa including Classifieds, except within the Thai language forum, where of course using Thai is allowed. Short Thai translation of technical terms is permitted in specialty forums.

A profane post was removed as well.
