Chinese tourist numbers on Samui are down because they pay 6,000 baht return  to get to Bangkok. But then Bangkok Airways charge them 11,000 baht for the onwards leg to Samui and back. This airline has the monopoly on Samui, and there is no other alternative, unlike Phuket and Pattaya.

Return flight to Samui = 17,000B, via BKK and BKK Airways.

Return flight to Phuket = 9,500B direct.

It only costs 6000 Baht to fly to Bangkok from China ? Are you sure ?

Of course I'm sure - did you think I made it up? Check it for yourself. Current lowest fares are on offer at a low season (January) discount of 1,900 baht.
