1,000 illegals nabbed in Pathum Thani

Police yesterday round up 1,000 foreigners as part of the government’s “x-ray” operation in Pathum Thani’s Klong Luang district.

Crackdown part of government’s ‘xray’ operation aimed to find those who overstay their visas or engage in unlawful acts

TO FULFIL his vow to deport some 7,000 foreigners who have overstayed their visa by the end of this month, acting Immigration Police chief Pol Maj-General Surachate Hakpal yesterday led some 1,000 officers to “x-ray” 25 locations in Pathum Thani’s Klong Luang district.

They are seeking foreigners living unlawfully in the Kingdom, as well as drug and arms suspects.

Surachate, better known as “Big Joke”, said the officers, including police commandos, had initially found over 1,000 foreigners in Klong Luang.

Surachate said the “X-Ray Outlaw Foreigners” operation was part of the government’s policy for the Army, police and administrators to crack down on transnational criminals across the country. The crackdown is specifically focused on foreigners who do not have documents, those who have overstayed or are engaged in wrongdoing, he said.

Meanwhile, officials from Krabi Immigration Office have been cracking down on illegal foreigners in Ao Nang and Phi Phi Island all this month.

“Phi Phi is one of Thailand’s main international tourist destinations. Many foreigners visit this island, and since October is the start of the high season, we expect lots of tourists to visit the island.

“So far this month, we have arrested 113 foreigners, namely 28 for overstaying their visa, four for entering the country illegally, one in relation to narcotics, three foreigners who are wanted in other countries, 10 illegal workers and 67 for other misdemeanours,” Krabi Immigration chief Colonel Supparueak Pankomon said.

With the crackdown on illegal foreigners in full swing, the Thai News Agency published a scoop on October 18-19 related to marriages of convenience between South Asian men and Thai women. The report said since 2015, there have been over 3,500 such marriages, allowing the men to stay and work in Thailand, the report said.

This tactic is believed to be popular in Bangkok’s Pahurat area, where many Indians stay and work, the agency said. Many poor Thai women are allegedly given Bt3,000 in exchange for copies of their national IDs and household registration papers, which are then used to arrange marriage certificates tying them to foreign men.

The report added that many of these women were unable to end these marriages, which had an adverse effect on their lives. This has led to the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission launching an investigation, as many of these cases allegedly involved state officials.

So far, 600 such cases have been found in Nong Bua Lamphu’s Nong Sang district, nearly 1,000 cases in Nakhon Pathom’s Sam Phran and Bang Len districts and some 2,000 cases in Saraburi province, the agency reported.

Silly me, I didn't realise, wrong set of paramilitary uniforms for that...

A couple of telling photos though, "foreigners", whose labour probably contributes to the economy, being herded around by lots of blokes dressed in uniforms who quite possibly don't.

So if the pic shows all these people are illegal for one reason or another I suspect that they must be working as apposed to living here on savings?

So this begs the question will all the employers in the area be found, fined or jailed for illegally employing foreign workers without correct documentation or is this just a one way street foreigners out while Thais go free !!!!!

There goes the cheap labor.  Wonder if they can be replace with actual Thais who will do the same jobs for the same (low) wages?

There must be horrific scenes at their detention centers now I'm sure nobody was prepared to host thousands more 'guests'.

Don't worry because you should note the emphasis is on getting rid of 7000 illegals.   They have not mention how to stop the 1000's per month influx into the country.   So Somachai can still loaf around doing sweet FA whilst his wife sells Somtam and the illegals build the roads that Somchai drives down blind drunk in his pick-up, bought on tick thanks to his Wife's hard work.

Agreed, looks like mostly Burmese people who are the hard working ones. No sign of any black drug dealers or scammers !

..making poor people poorer..surely they could hand them a temp work permit of sorts.

would'nt be too difficult to round up illegal foreign workers in Klong Luang/Navankorn area, I reckon they hit on there to get those numbers up. Lots of factory workers not clocking in today.

Cant wait to see the "hard  working Thais" fill these now available jobs these folk were doing, yes expect they'll be queuing up for them.

I foresee a shortage on qualified (cheap) labour and workers in Restaurants, construction sites and other areas. Wonder who will do these Jobs.

Cant stop the  supply of bribes to bent  immigration officials at the borders to get in now though can they.

Expect many of those deported will be back in tomorrow if they can find the right envelope to fill at those very same borders.

The Greatest Nation on Earth will  supply  them of course.

Getting read of cheap labor in favor of higher costs of living/inflation in a poverty stricken country. Nice one.

It will all depend on whether the said employer is "connected" or not.  Or if they...........  Wait: People get annoyed by reading synonyms for "suntanned postal stationery."

no white faces ?

if they keep on deporting the people who build have of anything around here, there might be a shortage

Also need to look at the corrupt officials who allowed these marriages to happen

I thought exactly like you, but my wife told me it was because those ones did not ask anything, so they are illegally in the country, but people from Myanmar and Laos could have work permit easily for those hard jobs. Her family live forty kilometres from the Lao frontier and she says many Laotians are working legally in the region so it is possible, obviously, there are steps to take with the administration and we can assume that some do not bother to do it ?

Soon the foreign legion in Thailand will be reduced in half! I've sent this post along with the Krabi report to the EU in Brussels to share it with the wonderful Western governments, they might see what they can do to halt the so-called "populist danger" over there!!
