It is identical to the Chevy Trailblazer LTZ 4x3 but with the 2.5 diesel that produces slightly more HP than the MU-x

Chevy has a special sale on it for 1.280.000

For 1,5m Baht I would go for the Everest at this moment. Currently I'm driving a Fortuner (Gasoline with LPG installation, which runs very smooth without any issues) and start looking around, since the Fortuner is almost 13 years old now.

Diesel cheaper than Petrol??? So you don't live in Thailand I guess, since in Thailand Diesel is more expensive than gasoline:

http://www.pttplc.com/en/getoilprice.aspx

I had a Chevy colorado diesel a few years ago and at that time if I remember correctly diezel was less expensive.

I sold it when I went back to work in the US, thinking I will rent  the short time I was in Thailand every year.

Big mistake, we ended up spending more time in Thailand than we thought, especially the wife and renting became expensive, and a hustle. For the last three years we bought a  Mitsubishi Mirage so that we had something while there that it is not too expensive to worry about it, (sister drives it while we are not there) .

I work in a very expensive market, NYC, Manhattan in a managerial position,  so though I am not rich by NYC standards, in fact I can't afford to live in Manhattan, I do pretty well by Thai standards and I really have not paid any attention to gas prices while in Thailand..

In the list you so kindly provided for me, I see that diezel and most petro choices are in the  29.5to.8 range .

So I stand corrected , Diezel is not cheaper now.

I will be retiring and coming back full time this spring. I   remember reading somewhere not long ago that there were plans for the government  to subsidize diezel . Have you heard anything about that?

Regardless of what, I am buying a diesel, If MG zs offered a diezel, the ZS is a nice looking SUV and I would consider it,  but even if they did , it would be more expensive than the current models, and it would  probably put it in line  with other more proven options.

My opinion on MG is wait and see.

i am seriously considering the Everest, and considered the Fortuner, but wife does not like it, I don't care, I am not a car person and will drive whatever makes economic sense to me.

I also don't like the way the last row seats fold in the fortuner, It gives it more height but less width. Other than that it is a fine SUV.

As far as Ford everest  is concerned I hear of problems with the transmission, and recalls . also the last row seat has less legroom than the MUX/trailblazer .

Do you know anything about that?

Wife likes the way  Everest looks , me I don't care, I will be driving it not looking at it.  Will not be doing anything until I am there this spring and will not be doing anything until then, Plenty of time for me to change my mind as new info comes in. Will probably start a thread as time comes near, and would appreciate your opinion.

PS: cute kid in your avatar, is it your's?

Whereas the MU-X comes with the dynamics of an agricultural vehicle

Yeah I've ridden in the back of one for a couple of hours and it sucked. Very jittery ride and that was after it had the suspension modified to improve it.

Yes I know, you can hear it coming, a good safety feature for pedestrians...☺️

You are correct that diesel was cheaper in the past. At this moment prices are about equal.

Luckily I drive using LPG, which is now about 13 baht per liter. Since there are no tax differences between lpg and gasoline and the labour costs in Thailand are cheap (to replace the valves in the engine in time), lpg is the choice with a 2 ton 4x4 automatic with airco running about 1 liter per 6km (sorry, no mpg numbers) in the city (with my driving style 555). Lpg gets about 1 liter per 5km, but cost is a bit more than a third of gasoline, so much cheaper to run.

Toyota is very reliable on lpg. No problems, very smooth and no loss in hp or torque.

I bought our Fortuner 2.7 liter gasoline version which was 4x4 at that time for 1.15 milion baht. Now the gasoline version (with I think the same 2.7 engine!) Is 1.5 million baht!!!!! An increase of 350k baht AND the current gasoline version is only 2 wheel drive. No way I will buy a Fortuner for these prices. It's a good car but way too expensive now.

The Everest offers much more in tech and options for similar prices as a Fortuner. True,  I heard of some issues, but I believe they will fix that.

Yes, that's my son in my avatar. Thanks ???? It's an old photo. Now he's 8 (still cute 555) and I have an 11 year old daughter as well. Both from the same beautiful Thai mom with who I'm married 13 years already (we met at work).

Oh, about the way the seats fold back in the Fortuner. I think it's much better to have more height space for large objects. The space is more than enough for many boxes and bags and for those things it doesn't matter if you go in the height or width. But if you have a large object and for example bicycles, you can easily carry them standing up. I really prefer this way. And if you really need the width once and while, you just unbolt the seat completely! Very easy to do. I just did last week for a 2 meter long cabinet.

Yes i wouldn't consider a 4 speed auto. Now should have at least 6-7 speed.

For your information the MG3, when launched, won a European design award in 2014. You do understand that the European crash testing, NCAP, is some of the most onerous in the world do you ? Mass produced cars such as the MG can not be sold in Europe without NCAP certification.

And are you aware that vehicles sold in some Asian countries do not necessarily meet those EU standards? Every country has different safety standards. This is why some EU sourced vehicles cannot sold in North America, or even why some US vehicles cannot be sold in Canada and the EU. In Thailand, daytime running lights are not allowed, in other jurisdictions they are mandatory.

Now let's get more specific; The article states that the MG3 in Thailand has 2 airbags, doesn't it?   When the MG3 was last submitted for EU safety testing, in addition to driver and passenger airbags, did it not also include Side head and Side Chest airbags for side impact protection? That's 2 additional airbags isn't it?  Why do Europeans get better protection than Thais? Do you understand my point now?   Don't you think it is reasonable to expect the Thai market to offer vehicles as 'safe" as those sold in the EU?

Within the context of my post, my point was regarding crash testing, ie NCAP tests in Europe.  The number of air bags is irrelevant to the NCAP crash testing requirements .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_NCAP

You should have just  stayed quiet.

The last MG3 safety tests were not particularly good.

More importantly, you should understand what you cite;

the number of airbags is VERY important because it has a direct relationship to survivability of a crash. No point in a  vehicle that stays intact after a 20 kmh crash if the passenger brains have been splattered on the windshield.

BTW, in the article you referenced, did you read this part?

This means that the ratings can only be meaningfully compared between cars of the same type and size

The takeaway is that a low score as earned by the MG3 means that there is a greater likelihood of injury or death than if it is a  larger vehicle with  the same score. Hence, a further reinforcement of the need for the additional airbags.

Yes, rides with crap low rpm torque and/or a high final drive gear ratio should, but most diesels are quite happy with a 4 speed. Boxes with multi gears tend to have extra overdrive gears for high mph cruising..

Thais dont care about Ratings. neither do i much.. Not being wrapped in Cotton Wool since birth. They realise a Second Class rides better than a First Class Walk.
