RATCHABURI, 29th October 2018 (NNT) - Ratchaburi province is preparing to recover the explosives from World War II found under Chulalongkorn Bridge this December.

The Vice Governor of Ratchaburi, Weerat Prasertso, revealed on Sunday that the province had held a meeting of officials from the armed forces, the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office, Ratchaburi City Municipality, and the State Railway of Thailand to discuss the recovery process of the explosives from World War II found under Chulalongkorn bridge.

He said officials from the Royal Thai Navy will start exploring the discovery site, which will take approximately seven days, to gather information needed to draft an action plan for the recovery, a process which will take about two weeks.

Once the final bomb recovery plan is in place, respective agencies will authorize the navy to perform the recovery of the bombs buried 50-meter under each side of the bridge. This process is expected to be performed this December.

The recovered explosives will be examined by the Royal Thai Armed Force to see whether they are still active. Active explosives will be destroyed at a safe site in Chaibadan district, Lopburi. Inactive explosives will be put on display at the old governor's residence, with a special event will be held to tell the legacy of World War II in Ratchaburi.

........the bombs buried 50-meter under each side of the bridge.

Misleading statement. No one buried them least of all 50 meters deep or they would never have been located.

The Singapore/Malaya/Thailand railway was bombed by the Allies at the tail end of WW2 and I assume that these are UXB on the river bed either side of the bridge.

This was the bridge downline at Chumphon:
