I'm willing to sit Bob down and teach him a few things, which come from outside where he lives, in Knee Jerk City. But first he needs to express that he is open to learn. Then we can take the first steps.

Has for the game it was the most lackluster game I have seen by us in many years, Clearly Rashford was not fit from the start and should not of played.

Maybe by playing him he will be out for a few weeks now.

We just don't have anyone up top now, we will be lucky to make a top 10 finish at this rate.

The big question now is when will United win an away game again ? Last time that happened was back in February.

I predict a boring draw against Arsenal, then another loss away and the story just continues.

I'm passing the time while I wait for @BangrakBob to have a serious discussion. If he does understand the game, then he will stop hiding.

At the time of OGS appointment it was agreed, by most knowledgeable people, that it would take at least 3 transfer windows to put out a team that could be competitive for honours. That factor hasn't changed and with the current run of injuries has only slowed down the process.

Having said the the performance by the 11 that took the field on Sunday was abysmal and some of the basic fundamentals that we all learned as players were forgotten.

Firstly the lack of energy against a team that at best is of mid table quality. The minute you don't employ that most basic instinct you are going to be on the back foot.

 

We saw Matic receive the ball many times from De Gea and Magquire,  in space, instead of turning and looking to pass forward and create opportunities he simply passed the ball back to them to then a speculative ball sent upfield,that is so wrong. Would Carrick or Scholes have done that ? never in a million years. As soon as I see Matic's name in the starting team I despair.

 

I can understand OGS desire to play a winning team but the result against Leceister was hardly convincing and changes should have been made in midfield. I get back to what I said weeks ago a priority is a genuine no 9  and a creative ,goal scoring midfielder.The last one was one PS

 

Young shows no leadership qualities and clearly that factor was exposed when 1-0 down they still had chance to nab a point but what does he do a stupid, pointless foul in a position where Cresswell, their specialist free kick taker, would have selected if given the choice, then at 2-0 down there was no way back

 

Its moments like that must throw OGS & coaching team into despair. These are the games where its essential if you have any aspiration of top 4 you must win

 

A side issue I thought VAR was for obvious errors missed by the referee.Mark Noble's studs up ,shin high, highly intense tackle on Wan Bissaka was so clearly a straight red.

Dermot Gallagher who appears on Sky's Ref Watch, and someone I have admiration for agreed, said the decision was made as the tackle was in VAR's opinion only in the "area of a yellow card". Heaven help us if that's the case.

It would have had no effect on the final score but VAR continues the "lottery" factor

 

During the game  Ed Woodward was seen throwing his arms in the air in frustration when WH scored.

Ed you are the major part of the United predicament,poor transfer dealings and still no Director of Football

Agree with a lot of what you have posted. 

 

Matic hasn’t got the legs of old, along with Mata. Young cannot put a performance in himself let alone inspire others, hence a soft, lacklustre performance with no energy. The fact that those three were all still playing is a testament to the the lack of depth of quality in your squad. 

 

Noble should of gone for that tackle and the fact that VAR didn’t take it further does indeed make it a lottery. 

 

Where I disagree is that West Ham are mid table quality at best. They aren’t no top 4 contenders that’s for sure, or even top 6 probably, but they out fought you, out played you and were technically far superior than the 11 on show, so if that’s the case you could be looking at a relegation battle if you’re not careful.

 

I assume Pogba and Martial would of changed all that.

This is a discussion forum!  If Ole was a Swede I would still comment.  No I'm not a United fan, I want Spurs to do well and right now we need all the help we can get to stay top 4.

As a starting point, I wanted to see if you understood what he meant by 'letting things play out', as I partly agree with what he is getting at. But no worries, I can see you don't exactly have a Johan Cruyff football brain, so I will break it down for you.

 

For United, the dying embers of the likes of Matic, Mata and Young in the team is as natural as an adolescent going through spots. This is the situation. After shipping a reasonable amount in and out in the summer we were left with a mix of exciting youngsters, and a handful of older players who while maybe not able to cut it at the highest level any more, are certainly solid professionals. Now, in terms of the continued evolution of that mix, as I see it Ole had 2 choices. a) Put the youngsters straight in, rather than make them force their way into the team. Not only does this risk putting them in too early, it also upsets the natural order of the dressing room. The experienced pros feel that they have been cast aside without having an opportunity to cement their place for the season. Bad idea IMO, but probably tempting if you are from Knee Jerk City and can't see the bigger picture. or b) He can let things play out naturally. Put the experienced pros in for some early games, knowing full well that there could be performances like West Ham away. When, as expected, they don't quite cut it anymore, you have the perfect opportunity to put the youngsters in for the next big game. The experienced pros won't feel hard done by and will be happy to play a support role from the bench, and the kids have at least had to play their way into the team. plan b) might give you some short term problems, but it is the only way to preserve dressing room harmony over the course of the season, and let things take their natural course 'playing out'. This is just sensible management which doesn't only apply to football.

 

Now if Mata, Matic, Young etc all play vs Arsenal, maybe me and Ole aren't on the same page. But for now, I am pretty sure this is his thinking, and I think he has done it the right way. Now it is time for the youngsters to shine.

I agree with some of what you say and I know you know your stuff. I don't think my opinion is worth more than any other United fan, but I do think it is worth a lot more than some of the outsiders who post in our thread. And the response above is more for them, but I would be interested in hearing your take on it.

I'm just hoping there's a big crowd so The Dale get a good slice of the purse. Games like this are massive for teams like Rochdale and can mean the difference between survival or ending up like Bury.

Well over 50,000 expected and Dale fans can pay at the ground by purchasing at United's ticket office before going to the turnstile.

Indeed the lower clubs need these games against the big clubs(well we was a big club once)to boost their coffers, And to think some people are calling for the league cup to be axed, Not me it's great to get a look at fringe player's and players from our academy.

In the 70's when Stockport county drew United, Me and a few other Stockport reds went along with the county fans and stood with them in the county end it was all fun and banter with county leading 2-1 but United got two late goals to win, Well they started to have a go at us and luckily we knew most of their main lads so they held back.

I've always wondered how I would feel if United played Alty and where my loyalties would lie. I'm pretty sure I'd want the smaller team to do well.
