Yensabai Condo Jumper

Two days ago at Pattaya Tai's Yensabai Condo, between 5:30 and 6 p.m., a wheel chair-bound Farang went out the ninth floor north-end corridor window.

Has this horrible event made local news?

Oh, this is sad news if true.

I think there is a good chance I saw the farang in question on a nearby soi a few weeks ago. He appeared to very depressed and sickly looking. Being sick and alone in Pattaya is a horrible thing. I must admit this guy appeared so pitiful that I thought about approaching him and asking if he needed some help but didn't. At the very least, expats in Pattaya do need some kind of suicide hotline to call.

Doing the Samaritans thing takes training and a very deep sense of duty. It can be a very harrowiing job (more of a calling??).

I thought there was a Samaritans set-up in Pattaya already??

Anyone have the contact number(s)? They should be widely distributed.

An excellent idea, how would it be staffed and promoted though?

Apolgies for being snippy new guy :o

You're right, Snippu. Just cheap lip service from me. It wouldn't be easy or cheap and the staff would need some training, even if working for free. All I can think of now is that if you are suicidal rich guy, why not leave all your money to a trust that is set up to form and fund such an organization. Then at least there will be some great benefit from your own tragedy.

I'm glad this one hasn't made the news to be honest.

The guy in question is a good friend of someone I know and he did unfortunately decide to end his life.

I last saw the Guy in my bar on Wednesday and he seemed in good spirits but the fact is that he was very very unhappy but not sick. :o

Thank god these condo jumpers aren't hitting anyone down below! Can you imagine being crushed by a 120 kilo caucasian bunker buster launched from the 23rd floor? Isn't there a more socially acceptable method for offing oneself?

Thanks for that Dave. I don't know if it is the same guy. However, I really meant to say he looked mentally sick and depressed, not diseased.

Lived in Yensabai for a couple of years. There was one guy in a wheel-chair who was not 100% right in the head, used to get very agressive (well, so would I if I was stuck in a wheel chair for life), but I don't think this would be the same chap. I'll make enquiries through friends still living there.

Probably was the same guy actually, I see what you were getting at now regarding his state. :o

i recall the samaritan hotline being quite heavily debated on another thread with several tv's 'hardy perennials' sounding very serious about pursuing it. however, it was mentioned that apart from the special training and commitment, there's the huge problem of language since depression doesn't just affect the (fluent) english speakers. does bangkok have a samaritans contact? i recall seeing it advertised years ago in the bangkok post so there may be an english-only option there. is there a Thai samaritans or is the concept lost on this culture of thambun, mai pen rai and jai dee?
