BANGKOK, 7th December 2018 (NNT) - Deputy Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Pol.Col.Gen.Chirasan Kaeosang-ek has confirmed that the Administration Court has not yet issued an order to allow motorcycles to use intersection bridges.

The deputy commander said this week that police officers will continue to enforce laws that prohibit motorcycles, Tuk Tuk taxis and trucks from using Sutthisan intersection bridge and other prohibited places in all instances.

Another area where motorcycles are often found using pavements is along Lat Phrao road near Phahonyoyhin MRT station.

There are more than 11,000 cases of motorcycles using footpaths in Bangkok. Fines resulting from the misdemeanor total 4.17 million baht.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has advised the public that it will continue to enforce the laws in an effort to prevent the danger to pedestrians.

Flow of traffic.

There are no minimum speeds and space is very limited in tunnels and on (u-turn) bridges.

Somchai attaches a bbq to his illegally modified motorbike and goes 20km/h at best while cars do 120+. It doesnt mix well with limited space.

As in getting wherever you're going as quickly as possible?

What's the reason for not allowing them (motorcycles) to use the bridges?

The same as not allowing bigger bikes, ie 250 and up, from using some carriageways, just sheer bloody mindedness. I use them anyway, only been caught once and paid the policeman 300 Bt after he asked for 1000.????

Yes, it is me, and no apology, when in Rome do as the Romans do, when it suits you that is.

If there are any expats in Thailand who can truthfully say that he/she would never get involved in corruption, then do let us know.

You are living in a corrupt country, so sometimes you have to make it work for you, but again you need to use common sense in what you do or don't do.

Then ban those BBq motorcycles. Most bikes can reach speeds fast enough to keep up with the cars especially in Bangkok. I have been on those flyovers a lot its just crazy not to allow normal motorcycles there. Not accepting those food cart that is just common sense.

Agree, but how is Somcai with his bbq-bike going anywhere in that case? He wont be able to leave his garage anymore.

And thats where the lacking road design comes in.

There is basically one road that is shared by people walking their buffelo, motorbikes, people pushing a cart, trucks going 20km/h uphill, normal cars, and sports cars.

There are no alternatives; a highway transforms into a city road with a sign "slow down", and you go from 120km/h to a complete stop for a traffic light.

Developed countries have highways with a minimum speed, roads next to the highway with a lower maximum speed, and other roads still connecting places for other traffic.

Thailand has 1 road only; you cant exclude one group as that will mean they wont be able to go anywhere anymore.

Bob,

I dont think you have been in BKK for a while they are talking about flyovers there is always an alternative for flyovers so somchai in his BBQ-Bike could still get where he wants. Its just that flyovers are great for faster passage. I hate it that I am not allowed to use them (some of them) and it makes no sense. Near my home there is a flyover that goes 2 ways and both equally wide. Motorcycles are allowed on one way but not the other. No logic.

Normal motorcycles can really keep up with traffic especially BKK traffic as it moves slower in general. I also dislike that some bridges are closed to bikes that is even worse as that really leaves you with no alternative. Fortunately for me i don't need to pass those bridges.

What is an intersection bridge?

Never heard that...

Is it a bridge version of a crossroad?
