AMERICAN “YAH ICE” DEALER CAUGHT IN PATTAYA POLICE STING OPERATION

An American yah ice (crack cocaine) dealer was caught by the Pattaya Constabulary in a sting operation at 00.20 am on 18th February.

Police General Suthin Thrubpuang, Police Lieutenant General Chaiyakrit Thongin and Police Major General Thawesak Suerthong led the team which apprehended the American, Brian Scott Meisenburg, aged 47 in Swan Guest House.

Apparently, a farang yah ice user confessed to the police that he had bought some of the drug from Meisenburg, so the police decided to plan a sting operation. They asked the farang to phone Meisenburg and ask for I pack of yah ice costing 6000 Baht. The police were using bank notes with recorded serial numbers. Meisenburg agreed and suggested a liaison in front of his room, 202, Swan Guest House.

15 minutes later, the police dressed in plain clothes, masquerading as customers, knocked at Meisenburg’s door. Meisenburg appeared at the door with the drug in his hand, the police gave him the money and when he tried to close the door, the police brushed passed him and went into his room.

In his room, the police searched for and found 2 packs of yah ice, with another 4 secreted under Meisenburg’s bed. There was also drug paraphernalia used for taking the drug. They also found that Meisenburg had a long overstay, his visa having expired on January 8th 2006.

Meisenburg denied he was a dealer and said that the drug belonged to a friend of his Alex (nationality unknown) who worked at an entertainment venue in Pattaya. Meisenburg said that any drugs in his room were for his own use. However, the police refused to accept his explanation and with the evidence in question arrested him for dealing yah ice. He will be charged accordingly.

I think this case deserves a little more investigation. First of all, this guy appears to be selling a drug that was likely produced overseas. Since he is on a 1 year overstay, I doubt that he brought it into Thailand. So somewhere out there is the source and probably other distribution points.

from what i understand for his stupidity, getting caught with that amount he will be looking at life, which means at least 8 years in a luxury Thai prison before he can be transferred to an american prison. i am actually stuck for what to write, the mans sheer lack of intelligence is baffling, 1 year overstay and dealing drugs.

Hey, when your dealing drugs and getting high, you just have a tendency to forget about those things like renewing visas, 90 day validation etc., etc., etc..

And now he'll be on an 8 year overstay--boy, is going to have to sell a lot of drugs to pay for that fine!

I thought "Ice" was crystal meth - is it really crack ?

Just what Pattaya needs is a bunch of crack addicts in town. The nature of that drug tends to make people edgy & violent.

Anyone know

I don't know wether it is Libby or the original reporter that puts the insert saying that ICE is Crack.

It's not, ICE is pure Methamphetamine and Crack is pure Cocaine.

It's not the first time this misinfomation has occurred in Pattaya news reports.

I reckon that it would be much easier to set up a little factory here than risk shipping it.

I hear that it's quite easy to produce, even Americans can make the stuff :o

Greetings. This is my first post to this forum.. First, I would like to say that Brian Meisenberg, the subject of this thread, has been a childhood friend of mine since I was 14 years old. Brian was an Usher in my wedding and I have stayed in touch with him for 30 years, and I am deeply distressed for his situation, for is mother and father, and for the future of Brian.

Debating the stupidity of his actions is moot. I will not say anything about Brian that may compromise the situation he is in. However, it is important to note that Brian is suffering from MS and is in need of help. His parents are unable to help him.

I would like to solicit anyone who is in pattaya's assistance if I could. Could anyone find out how he could be contacted? What facility he is in? Any information on a trial, sentence? Any information on medical care to inmates waiting trial? Anything at this point would be a comfort to his family and to me personally.

I am planning a trip to see Brian in September. I have been to Pattaya twice in the past. Already the con's are coming out and soliciting money to help 'get him out' and information is scarce. I greatly appreciate any and all help you can give me. Any information, no matter how small, will be helpfull. Thank you in advance.

Have you tried contacting the American Embassy? They should be able to provide some basic details for you. They will have probably had a representative of the embassy that will have visited him. You could use that as a starting point. Their website is here.

And nobody thought of getting him back to the States and help, before he messed up?

I am really not interested or in a position to talk about the circumstances before the arrest as this may or may not affect Brian in a negative way. I will do nothing or say nothing that could worsen his already grim reality.

what is important to me now is information pertinent to the post-arrest situation, and I appreciate any help, advice, or comments that will lead to helping an american survive in the horrid and dangerous conditions he is in now. If you wish to make comments about the intelligence of the pre-arrest situation, then I take no offense. Please just don't direct them at me because I will not answer them

thank you so much for understanding and anyone with any information is encouraged to send me a PM or post it here.

My deepest sympathy to this mans parents

I just received a tip that Brian may be in Chonburi prison. If anyone could find out if this is true, and get me his building number, and any contact information, I would be very appreciative.

Thank you to all the americans and other concerned Farangs on the ground in Pattaya. We all don't do the things Brian has been accused of, but many people in Thailand have ended up in prison for things they never imagined. Think the horror of finding yourself there with everyone taking a "the jerk deserved it" attitude.

In my opinion, waxing philosophically about "WHY" someone from one of our homelands ends up in one of these prisons misses the mark by a mile. what is important is to let them know people care. To that end, anyone who could do ANYTHING for Brian there would be greatly appreciated. A mat to sleep on, Cigarretes (for currency), small amounts of money in his prison account, a visit, bring him food, anything, would be a great humanitarian effort on your part.

Thank you for the responses I have received by PM. It has raised my faith in humanity by a longshot. If anyone can do anything, any little thing at all, please post your intentions here.

THANK YOU.

Should I visit or help someone in jail, it would have to be a very close friend of mine and it would also depend on what kind of charges got him in there in the fist place.

I like my quiet life as it is and wouldn't risk raising suspicions on my own law abiding person with friendly gestures towards an unknown farang involved with hard drugs.

Long over stay, can almost bet the guy has been milking the government and tax payers for years

because of a disability, which could be false also.

Seems like many of these disabled people can do about anything except make an honest living while we foot their bill for a life in the tropics. I guess 10 more years in a government facility will not be as easy this time.

Thank you Phil. I am monitoring this thread for positive developments daily, along with other avenues.

May each and every one of you never have to deal with a loved one or family member who ends up in this situation.

Thanks. No defense has been brought forward yet and those of us back home will not be involved in who or what happened because mostly...there is no way for us to know. But we have made strides in contact, in locating him, and in getting him needed money for day to day living. The embassy is also responding and the wheels of justice in the great kingdom of Thailand are starting to turn. Hopefully the wise and mercifull judge will find him innocent or show his capacity for mercy. Thanks to all who have been concerned.
