Chinese tourist numbers increase following visa fee exemption

More Chinese tourists' arrived in Thailand in November following the exemption of visa on arrival fee, although the growth is still negative, the Tourism and Sports Ministry reported.

 

The VoA fee has been exempted for Chinese tourists since November 13 as a measure to attract more visitors to the kingdom. The measure is due to expire on January 13.

 

The ministry reported that 675,129 Chinese tourists visited Thailand in November, a fall by 14.63 per cent, but the situation improved compared to October when the drop was 19.8 per cent..

 

The ministry said the revenue generated by Chinese tourists in November was Bt36.454 billion, a fall of 10.36 per cent compared to the same month last year.

 

It said the number of all foreign tourists was 3.177 million, an increase of 4.54 per cent compared to the same period last year. It was an improved situation from October when the number of all foreign tourists shrank by 0.51 per cent.

 

The revenue generated by foreign tourists in November was Bt167.417 billion, an increase of 5.18 per cent compared to the same month last year.

 

From January to November, 34.431 foreign tourists have visited the kingdom, an increase of 7.53 per cent.

 

Chinese tourists remain on top with 9.697 million visiting Thailand from January to November, generating Bt536.278 billion of revenue.

There is no way to accurately Guage tourist expenditure, it cannot be reliably isolated out or filtered from local spending. As with most economics these figures are spurious and engineered to fit a desired narrative. I suspect that as they have conceded a fall in numbers, then the reality may be much worse. 

And in more breaking news: Tourists from Andorra increased by 200% as an Andorran couple were seen transiting through Swampy.

Re your first sentence: They do understand but are grasping at straws and think the readers of their propaganda are stupid enough to believe it. It is them who are stupid.

Re your last sentence: "Make such fools of themselves" by lying has become the Mantra of politicians and leaders, of late, world wide. They insult the population with their lies but are too stupid to realize this.

This is old news as there was an announcement of a surge in tourist numbers literally hours after this scheme was proposed.

 

 

It would be nice to see the data these technical geniuses use to arrive at this conclusion. I wonder if the Chinese tourists actually know there is a change in the fee or does the booking agent make a windfall profit?

If the "growth is still negative" (meaning visitor numbers are factually FALLING),  how the heck was TAT able to celebrate the RECORD 10 millionth Chinese visitor a few days ago? Every information that comes out of TAT seems to be totally contradictory and ought to be regarded with suspicion.

 

Either the country has just received a record number of Chinese tourists this year (in which case the growth CANNOT BE negative), or the growth IS negative (in which case receiving a record number of visitors is IMPOSSIBLE). It cannot be both. Jesus Christ!

So, record numbers of Chinese arriving at BKK. Numbers up with visa fee exemption. Problems solved, crisis averted, all the vendors and businesses are now rich and content.  

According to the headline Chinese tourist numbers have increased.

 

According to the article they're down 14% on the same time time last year.

 

So, they've increased from last month. Has there ever been a year when November tourist numbers haven't been larger than October numbers.

 

As for the overall 4.54% increase overall on last year I somehow wonder if they have changed the methodology of calculating arrival numbers as everybody in the tourist business seems to believe numbers are the lowest for some time.

This such a great news !!! I'm so happy for Thailand !!!

Just a little question : where does the TAT hide the millions of tourists ??? 

 

I'm living in Jomtien, it's supposingly high season, just 3 days before Xmas. Yesterday evening 10 pm Jomtien was empty...let's be honnest, less than 3 weeks ago but absolutely nobody in restaurants, beach bars massage shoos and other entertainment sites. Some little crowd in the pure thai cheap restaurants/night market, but you can easily park around, no traffic jam. In fact everywhere more staff than customers.

 

I went to an Indian restaurant where I'm used to go for years now, normally at that moment of the season you must book in advance if you want to have a chance to get a table. Yesterday night, 15 patrons only and the owner told me he was very pessimistic for the weeks to come...

 

But if the TAT believes in its own biased figures, I'm happy. They deserve what they get but I'm wory for the thai workers who highly depend of the high season success to survive, they are not trusting TAT BS at all.

Yeah, let them come. There are more boats like "Phoenix" around.

And I saw an article this morning saying that Phuket is having its worst high season in 10 years. Lies, damned lies and statistics. So its down but not down as bad as before. That really is spin of the highest order.
