Can I assume that if I use a VPN to get access to Netflix's 4K listings that it will need to be a very good and expensive VPN provider?

I have high-speed fiber access, a hot PC, and a 4K TV, and I would like to put it all to good use.

Unless you are wanting something that is only on Netflix in the US, you don't need to use a VPN - there is plenty of 4K content available on Netflix without using a VPN (assuming you have the correct subscription).

Is it ??

I was looking at my Netflix here in TH, with the feeling it wasnt as 'HD' as when I was watching the same series in europe.. Bloodline, Better call Saul, etc.. But I am watching on different setups.

Does it stream in 4k here ?? I wasnt sure how to test the stream (on 4k FireTVs) was legit 4k or 1080 upscaled ??

Mine is a western based netflix account, but when I use a Thai IP the available content changes so I will assume the streaming definition does also.

It definitely streams in 4K here (and HDR) - I watch UHD content every day. I'm not sure why you'd think the resolution would change - if you have a subscription that entitles you to view UHD content you should be able to do that anywhere (and can, in my experience).

Here's an example of a screen grab taken from my TV just now, showing a movie available in UHD 4K.

I got the 1080 subscription my TV is not 4K but my computer monitors are. The problem is not all content is of course 4K older shows are in the format they were taped in. They can't upgrade all shows to 4k or 1080 its only available for shows that were made in that resolution.

It has to do with 2 things, your account if you pay for 4k and if the show is available in 4k. If one of the two is missing you wont see the show in 4k.

and a 4K TV

Out of curiosity:

How big is it (diagonal)?

How far away do you sit/watch?

The current TV is 60" and I sit almost exactly 3 meters back. I will be getting a 65" model very soon and I think that the same viewing distance will be fine.

Anything bigger would require moving back a bit and I cannot. My sofa is already up against the wall.

The most popular TV's today are 55" and are most comfortable at around 2.5 meters, but it's a matter of personal preference.

There are 3 subscription levels available from Netflix, Basic (standard definition $7.99), Standard HD ($10.99) and Premium (Ultra HD $13.99). Depending on which subscription level you have, you have access to all content that is available in your geographical viewing area. If you use a VPN or Proxy that prevents Netflix from detecting your actual physical location, you can view Netflix geographically restricted content worldwide. Netflix offers more content from the US Servers that is unavailable on Asian Servers.

Yeah I have the ultra account.. But theres many reasons why ultra will fail (reports the 4KFireTV can be flakey at detecting HDCP on some HDMI ports) and I just am not thinking I am getting it on my 4K TV (bedroom TV is 1080p plasma). I wasnt sure if that was a Thai issue or a TV issue or maybe not an issue..

Will continue to have a dig around if others are receiving it..

No need ???

Did you ever look the Netflix catalogue in Thailand ?

from https://www.finder.com/netflix-usa-vs-world-content

Country         # TV Shows  # Movies
United States    1157       4593
United Kingdom    442       1586
Thailand           94        210

Edit: Hum…

These data may be obsolete (2016?)

Looks like +2'000 listed in October 2018 here :

https://www.finder.com/th/netflix-movies

So now unsure...

Re-Edit:

Is there a way to see/list the official Netflix Thai Catalogue

without being yet registered ?
