Pick-up driver who killed "Luck" at roadside tent gives up: Says he wasn't drunk

A driver of a pick-up who fled the scene of an accident in Buriram told investigators he was not drunk.

He ran off because of shock.

On Sunday Nathapong, 32, had lost control of his friend's Chevrolet four door truck and plowed into a roadside tent set up by Siam Ruam Jai Lamplaimas  foundation to help people at New Year.

A thirty six year old man called Somchai who was better know as "Choke" (Luck) by his foundation rescue friends was killed.

Nathapong said that he lost control on a bend. He was not drunk.

Following the accident he ran off then went back to the scene. Seeing the angry foundation workers he feared for his safety and turned on his heels and fled back home.

He gave himself up to Lt Col Nopadon Kaewchana of the Lamplaimas police yesterday.

He was tested for alcohol and this came up negative.

He has been charged with negligent driving causing death as well as fleeing the scene of an accident and not rendering assistance to an accident victim.

The owner of the pick-up Sarawut, 32, said he had asked his mate to drive as it was a long journey and he was tired. He was asleep along with another occupant of the vehicle when it hit the foundation rescue tent.

He called on social media to lay off him and his mates saying it was an accident.

He diverted attention from the accident itself claiming police irregularities.

He said that the cops had failed to allow him to see his completed statement saying he wanted justice.

In other words, he was driving too fast.

Could he expect that a bend feels different from driving straight? :glare:

Driving physics is not part of the half day curriculum for driving license  (if he has one at all)

Feel free to be his bleeding heart advocate

deal with him like a fugitive, assume drunk and lock the bugger up for 20+ years. Will teach him and all those clowns on the road (possibly) a lesson.
