Mobile Phone Query

Got a mobile in BKK. Works fine, have 40 baht or so credit on it, (it tells me that) BUT now it says that my account finishes today. Don't understand why.

When answering, remember I am pretty dumb when it comes to mobiles...

Don't worry mowlem, not everyone is a technical boffin.

Possibly you just need to top up the card, most pre-paid cards have an expiry date, and you may have reached its limit? Cant think of any other reason, unless the phone was sold under some kind of promotional offer.

Let us know what you find.

The 'talktime' credit is seperated from the 'airtime' credit.

When you purchase a SIM card or a 'refill', you get a credit for talktime, say 300 baht plus a credit for airtime, say 40 days.

It seems your 'airtime' credit has run out before your 'talktime' credit.

Pop into your local 7/11 or similar and get a refill card of any denomination, to add 'airtime' and 'talktime' credit.

You will not lose the 40 baht you have now.

Since incoming calls to cell phones are free in Thailand, this is how they keep the money coming in - otherwise people could start a cell phone service and take only incoming calls forever.

Your credit on the pre-paid mobile phone has two components: Talk time and service life.

Talk time (for making calls, not receiving) is provided in Baht, because the phone can make calls at different per-minute rates (international calls are allowed, for example).

Service life is a set number of days.

So when you buy a Plus-Up card, it has a Baht value and a set number of days service life.

As an example on 1-2-Call, a 300 Baht card is good for 30 days. I also have seen an 800 Baht card good for 100 days.

etc, etc.

My biggest gripe is that you con not have more than 1 year of air time credit before you loose the sim card number so if you have 500 or 1000B talk time credit and can not get back to Thailand inside the year you will lose the credit and the number.

The problem would be solved if you could top up the card from out side Thailand, i have asked but they[Happy D-prompt] say no. :o:D:D:D:D

In the past the rules were different.

Previously, on my Dprompt mobile telephone, there appeared to be no 12 month limit.

At that time Dprompt gave you 100 days airtime with a 300 baht refill card, so airtime built up quickly.

I think I may have built up two years before the date appeared not to extend further.

Now the system won't let the date extend beyond twelve months.

  • 2 weeks later...

I took my one-2-call card back to the Uk and didn't return until 8 months later. Put it in and worked no problem.

I also scratched the card to hard and ended up putting the wrong refill number in 3 times. Aftere 4 attempts it locks up. I went to get another card and when I came back to refill it, The thing was locked.

There was only my gf in the room, and she swore she never touched it. So it must be ghosts, or a glitch, or maybe she's full of shit...

IS it possible to buy online a sim + refill, before moving to thailand? Does any operators in Thailand have online offers?

Thank for answer

Wamdoo

you might try ebay.. I remember a comment on this forum about a member who saw a AIS(12call) sim advertised.

why do you wish to buy one before you come out here? very easy to buy here.. no registration required... then you just sms your new number to the people you want to be able to caontact you?
