"Hero" Vern Unsworth on the scene as Tham Luang cave clean up commences

TNA reported that a survey would begin today to clear up equipment left at Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai after the dramatic rescue of the Mu Ba Academy boys and their coach six months ago.

Yesterday a large number of Thai and foreign officials met outside the cave to discuss the way forward in clearing the cave. Among their number was the UK's Vern Unsworth a local resident who was instrumental in helping in the rescue.

TNA said that officials have had to wait for water levels to recede before starting the clean up that will take place in two zones of the cave.

Much of the equipment left is in the area from the cave entrance to what is known as "Hall 3".

This includes pipes, electrical wiring, phone lines, oxygen canisters and pumps that were left after the rescue operation that lasted through June and July of last year.

It was noted that three months have passed since the last water entered the cave but there is still a lot of mud potentially hampering the clean up.

Without his knowledge, the escape may never have got underway with the foreign experts that successfully rescued the boys.

The Thais are always reluctant to ask for help and would have probably 'gone alone' which would probably resulted in a tragedy.  The quotes around the word HERO are an insult.

He is not a hero. He just became famous for insulting musk, and now wants money for it.

Ahhh...ok then.

Can you remind me who was first to find the boys?

Tham Luang surveyed ahead of clean-up

THE AUTHORITIES have started an initial survey of the Tham Luang Nang Non caves in Chiang Rai province, made famous by the headline-grabbing rescue of a team of young footballers in July.

Jongklai Worapongsathorn, deputy chief of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), led a 35-strong survey team to survey the cave complex yesterday after flood levels had dropped and it was deemed safe enough. The team included members of the Navy Seals and British cave expert Vernon Unsworth.

He said no equipment will be moved until after a decision is made by City Hall on January 25.

The survey took an estimated six to eight hours.

Since the cave complex is closed to visitors to make sure everyone returned afterwards, every member of the survey team had to sign a logbook before going in .

They carried bags to collect garbage and reported that all the equipment, including electrical wires, air tubes and water pipes, will remain untouched for now.

The DNP hopes to turn the huge limestone cave network into a tourist destination after the damage inflicted during the rescue operation is repaired.

Clear signs warning which parts of the cave are off-limits will be put up to prevent a repeat of last year’s incident, the authorities said.

Help or publicity stunt? Kindergarten 101. Two wrongs don't make a right.

So you believe he contributed totally zero to the rescue of the football boys?
