Hey Guys

I was searching for recent post on the subject but, threads are old. I am heading to Pattaya for vacation and really want to learn how to ride a manual motorbike. I don’t want to drive “In “ Thailand. Parking lot is where I would like to practice and I will be generous($$)

thanks

There are a couple of "driving schools" in Pattaya now..though they seem to be mainly for cars/pickups....

You could rent a bike and have someone drive it to a quiet off road place whilst you ride on the back and once there practice  gear change/clutch control and right foot being brake ( instead of left hand as on an Auto ???? )  until your confident.

Honda/Yamaha/Kawasaki/Suzuki  have bike driver training schemes  however they seem to be in Bangkok and maybe you have to buy a bike ????????

good luck finding any Thai that knows how to ride a motorbike safely.

If you are in the UK,  i strongly suggest that you take the two day CBT training. Don't rent here if you don't have the appropriate licence.

Gosh...they are a bit negative around here. You'll be able to find a local who works at a motorcycle repair shop to teach you. He will know areas off road where you can practice.

Puzzled why you want to learn here but not drive here. Thailand is probably the worse place in the world to learn how to ride a bike.

Disagree, if you learn here and survive the atrocious driving all around you will be set to ride almost anywhere!

If you are a novice rider, by all means forget about a motorbike requiring shifting through the gears.  You are going to have more than enough to think about driving in Pattaya without worrying about shifting.  Most motorbikes rented in Pattaya are "automatic" anyway.   Give yourself a break.

He says he wants to learn to drive a manual motorbike....not an automatic...learning on a manual vehicle of any sort is much better than learning on an auto because then you only have to learn once...master the clutch and gear change then driving an "auto" (if one is forced to) is a piece of cake....not so the other way round.
@banjoe suggested an "enduro" place, there are a few around the Pattaya area and that would be very good practice for some of the roads around Pattaya that resemble an enduro course [emoji39]

LOL, a scratch from falling could deliver an infection that is a gold mine for Bangkok Hospital and spoils some days of your vacation, especially now where the rain season sets in.

I recommend you take 4 wheels first and go with a group for a Quad ride.

It has all characteristics of a Motorbike but you can't flip over that easy.

check this out mate, sure a big fun for beginners and way more safe. You get more than a parking lot tour..

Maybe there are quieter places to learn outside of Pattaya, English may be a problem. Learning on a scooter is fine. Main thing is learning to ride, balance and how the thais ride. Learning gears and stuff on a bigger bike can come later, but you don't need it at all around Pattaya

There is a driving school on Sukhumvit road, west side, between Pattaya Klang and the bangkok pattaya hospital. They have a practice area in the back. Just ask them what you want, they'll probably have something reasonable.

Nothing to do with learn to drive, but if you want to come to Pattaya and want to learn to drive also don't forget to take out good Health / Accident insurance from your Home Country as some insurers will not cover accidents when on a Motorbike !!

Just be careful

None will cover if he doesn't have the appropriate licence. Hence the practice on private land.
