The accident happened when the ambulance was rushing a gunshot victim to a hospital on Saturday night.

Following the accident report at 9pm, police and rescue workers rushed to the scene on the Dok Kham Tai-Ban Tham Road in Tambon Don Sri Chum. They found two dead bodies – of the ambulance driver, Kittinan Rachananet, 26, and the gunshot wound victim identified as Panya Maikham – inside the wrecked vehicle.

Two others – Ban Tham rescue workers Worawit Intawicha, 20, and Nipon Muangmul, 27 – were rushed to a hospital but Worawit was pronounced dead later.

Police suspect the ambulance was travelling at a high speed to rush the emergency patient to hospital when it lost control and crashed.

Hard to tell from the photos, but there doesn't seem to be much tread on the tires.  Racing slicks?

A Thai ambulance needs racing slicks to go faster.

Many places require emergency vehicle drivers to undergo specialist driver training. Not going to add anything further.

Yes !  Less tread = more rubber on the road. Thai safety feature.

This ambulance appears to be one operated by a "Rescue Foundation" and not one operated by a proper hospital - maybe differences in vehicle standards and maintenance??

... you bet, don´t know about this particular outfit - and have no ambitions to get acquainted - but one of their competitions drivers resides in the hood ... slick 5 cm tires on his heap (like seen on pickups too, lool, just perfect for local array of potholes ...) and a sound system that would dwarf Disaster Areas, plus yes, look at the age of the driver, just like the neighbour ...

I believe they just killed at least 1 nurse if not 2 here in a similar accident not long ago but couldn't find the thread anymore ...
