A new set of medals for some folk for defeating foreign invaders.

Lateral thinking - well done - commemorative coins and the obligatory T - shirts as a sideline would be nice as well.

By The Thaiger

A floating seastead has today been towed by a naval vessel back to the Port of Phuket in Cape Panwa. Meanwhile the Deputy PM Wissanu Krea-ngam is challenging the owners and builders of the structure to take the Thai Government and Navy to the International Court of Justice.

The Royal Thai Navy’s Third Fleet ventured out with a group of reporters on Saturday to inspect the floating seastead, the first of about 20 planned Ocean Builders for the open waters about 22km from Phuket’s Koh Racha Yai.

Nothing valuable was found on board the octagon-shaped steel and aluminium structure which was attached to a floating platform.

They are daring them to take it to International Court?  With Thailand's seriously poor reputation in the international community, do they really want to do that?

Guess they will spin this internationally as a major event to restore sovereignty and free Thailand from potential invaders.

Promotions galore...even with BJ out, immigration remains omnipotent to execute immigration laws at will.

Reminds me of the Brit government in the days of Radio Caroline, they should have opened up a pop radio station there, they all the teenagers would be supporting them.

Well ok but it is one thing attempting to suppress the enjoyment of pop music to the masses, as was the case for Radio Caroline/London etc  and totally another for a sovereign state attempting to justify to the international media that an unarmed tiny floating buoy was a threat to the countries security.  Tin pot Generals with tin pot ideals, who consider themselves important to their own tin pot country, thinking that the rest of the world are as tin pot crazy as themselves.

That suggests rather than bringing it back to shore for use in evidence for future prosecution, as was the original claim, it appears that this was secondary only to looking for things on board of any value ?  As it was in International waters then that is piracy , is it not ?

That's precisely why they are careful not sink or destroy otherwise the blooming thing.

None of this would really stand up in court of law, not even in Thailand; it might easily backfire and could be construed as state-sanctioned piracy.

All they are currently doing is towing back an abandoned platform.

It is a SPAR platform, and would fall under platform regulation.

What's the difference in terms of maritime law?

Incorrect as I understand it. It is not an abandoned platform, just currently unmanned. A very big legal difference.
