Killed on the first day of term - kindergarten kid, aged 5, with her gran going to school

A five year old child on her way to school with her grandmother in Kabinburi was killed when a female bank employee plowed into them.

It was the first day of term.

The driver reportedly disappeared.

Thai Rath reported that relatives and school officials at Kabinburi Hospital were in tears as 5 year old Wilasinee Phengkham or "Nano" succumbed to her injuries.

Fifty five year old grandmother Somyong Srikong is in a critical condition.

They were on the same bicycle going along the Nong Sang to Wang Tha Chang Road.

They were hit by the Mitsubishi just fifty yards from the Ban Kung Prachasawan School when little Nano was a child in a Kindergarten 3 class.

Police found the Mitsubishi off the road with a smashed front. The driver was nowhere to be found after the accident.

It turns out she is the daughter of the former director of the school when Nano was a pupil. Praphon Khamkrai, 72, said his daughter was on her way to her bank job in Kabinburi and she probably fell asleep at the wheel.

First on the scene were 49 year old Sujin Ornkinree and a nurse who gave immediate first aid and called the rescue services.

Sujin said that there were no brake marks on the road.

Well there you have it.  All the driver wanted to do was take a nap.

The victims were already down anyway.  Why can't anyone understand this Thai-style approach????????????????????????????????????????

If you are HISO in LOS just leave the scene as you've been told to do anytime you do bad things, relatives and/or connections will get you out of any trouble, after all, what does a 5 year olds life mean anything when you are HISO connected. Driver will forget this incident in no time and get on with her life.

Who falls asleep on their way to work on a business day?

just a ridiculous excuse for poor driving/not paying attention/not taking driving seriously...

hit and run and abandons her car? Doesn’t sound sleepy to me....

sleeping appears to be a "national sport" can see them sleeping almost anywhere

She should face a manslaughter charge... there's absolutely no defense for fleeing the scene of an accident

my deepest condolences to the family..

RIP little one

People who believe in reincarnation shouldn't be allowed to operate machinery, full stop. ????

Same old story every day, tbh. Education is the key, but an enlightened population is the last thing the elite of this (or any other) country want.
