Democrats to hold meeting on Tuesday over unmet demands

The Democrat Party plans to meet on Tuesday to discuss the party’s stand on the vote for prime minister as the Phalang Pracharat Party has not met its demands, Democrat spokesman Rames Ratanachaweng said on Saturday.

Rames said the Democrats have not yet decided to join the coalition.

The spokesman said the Democrats wanted the Phalang Pracharat to promise that the coalition would implement the Democrats key policies.

He said they wanted Phalang Pracharat to promise to support charter amendments and to implement policies for raising the income of framers.

If the Phalang Pracharat remains silent, the Democrat executives and MPs will hold a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the party’s stand before Parliament is scheduled to hold a vote to select the prime minister on Wednesday, the spokesman added.

Rames said that the Future Forward party has not invited the Democrats to join its coalition.

“We are now waiting only for a response from the Phalang Pracharat,” Rames added.

FFP have doomed the dems by not inviting them, just a few years left as any sort party, credibility completely shot!

A real free and fair election will see them decimated.

Poor Democrats are suffering from Relevance Deprivation Syndrome.

Even if the PPRP invite them, it's only to make up the numbers and not because they value their input. But the Deomcrats are too proud to acknowledge that truth.....they really believe that others think that they are relevant.

Wonder if anyone will show up.

Actually there is already plenty of articles in Tthe law that will make it possible for a minority government to govern with the Senate's help. So the PPRP does not crucially need them. It just makes things more simple. The main problem could be a censure debate, but in this case the same government can be re-elected right after by the two chambers and no more censure debate will be allowed during one year.

FFP better get a move on.

Seems you have just read the article in the other paper.

They worry if they link up with PT they'll lose more supporters as Thaksin was their arch enemy. But they could team up temporarily to fight the junta and go their own ways later.

Raising the income of framers, honestly? Is that the most pressing agenda the Democratic Party of Thailand has? No wonder they've lost all relevance (not to mention credibility).

Similarly PTP will not ask Dem to form the coalition as their supporters will never accept that. Dem is stuck in a hard place. IMO they will join the junta coalition and abstain from voting for the PM to show some sort of defiance.

Beats me why Dems, the FF, the hippy smokers want to join anyone - just stay independent and harass who even fights their way to the top - they will achieve more and might even get a few more brownie points along the way - joining the Junta or Thaksin  immediately reduces your creditability - to zero in the eyes of many.

Probably met to say farmers but framers (those who write laws) would be more correct. No matter who ends up in the big chair (and we all know who it will be) the fact that the Dems are even able to make demands show how fragile a coalition will be going forward.

How about a platform that consists more than simply pointing the finger and saying...He's corrupt!! She's corrupt!!
