Dozens of students, parents and teachers on a field trip to the Sai Yok area of Kanchanaburi in Thailand's west hurtled down a ravine after their bus experience a braking problem.

Police at the scene found a crushed motorcycle in the road, four poles snapped and the bus in the ravine.

The vehicle was part of a convoy of six vehicles taking primary students from the Wat Phokharam school in U-Thong district of Suphanburi to the scenic Sai Yok area.

Driver of the third vehicle in the convoy, 67 year old Withoon Padungrotwit said he was slowly going down the hill when there was a toppled motorcycle in his way.

He said he slowed further but there was a problem with his brakes. He ordered his helper to put chocks made from logs under the wheels but this did no good.

The bus went over the chocks, flattened the motorcycle then plunged through the poles and down into the ravine ending up next to a drainage ditch.

Thirty two students, parent and teachers were injured but only one, a female teacher who was sitting at the front was kept in hospital after being transferred from Sai Yoke hospital that is just 500 meters from the crash site.

Somchai takes his bus to the mechanic and says,  "The brakes don't work.   Can you fix the horn?"

I didn't know Somchai was British! He'd  need to be, to be that thick

Bus too old and poorly maintained, driver too old, how do you entrust to a transport company that offers this passenger service?
Irresponsible, stop these attempted murders!

No idea why driver is to old ?   One Company I worked for the owner used to always be taking children, parents and teachers on 'field trips'  a few times a month, he was 84..

Vehicles have two basic functions: go and stop. The go part is MUCH more intricate than the stop part, yet they seem to fail the stop function MUCH more frequently. Should someone point this out to their service mechanics (silly and pointless question, of course)?

Nobody killed ? Thank the gods  not the incompetent people neglecting their duty to maintain a public bus !!! Disgrace and shame to the Kingdom

hope you no hopers in the giver are reading these feeds!!!

Looking at i would conservatively bet the bus is 40 years old maybe older, this combined with a nearly 70 year old driver... amazing!

No surprise.

There are many more  unmaintained or poorly maintained vechicles with irratic or unfit drivers of such vehicles on the most dangerous roads in the world, namely Thai roads.

Paradise.

Why check them? They've been ok for the past 15 years.

Maybe the brake mechanic title should be removed from banned work for foreigner's ,as obviously the work is not being carried out, possibly another job the locals wont do ,
