Lenovo on Thursday announced a broad partnership with Microsoft to pre-install its Windows 10-based consumer PCs with Office Home & Student 2019 suite. As part of this partnership, Lenovo customers will have lifetime access to the full version of Microsoft’s essential applications for everyday use, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Onedrive.

Launching today at Commart Joy 2019, the pre-installed version of Office Home & Student 2019 on Lenovo devices comes with genuine Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This enables customers to regularly update their device for protection and security. The lifetime validated licence provides users with all the necessary functionalities to get started on their report or presentation as soon as they are done setting up their device.

This pre-loaded version also comes with secured 5GB Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage, so users can securely save and share files to anyone on any devices.

Thaneth Angkasirisan, the general manager for Lenovo Indochina, said: “As part of our intelligent transformation strategy, we are constantly finding ways to serve the needs of our customers and improve the way they live, work and play. Our joint effort with Microsoft to integrate hardware and software promises higher productivity and value for our customers. With the pre-installed Office apps, consumers can now unlock their potential immediately after purchasing a Lenovo device.”

Said Anne Lepissier, Microsoft’s Southeast Asia general manager for consumer and devices sales, “Microsoft’s mission is to empower every organisation and every individual to achieve more. To this end, we are delighted to partner with Lenovo in this first-to-market collaboration.

“We are looking forward to delighting customers with a complete solution of modern productivity tools for their work and life, while ensuring that their data is always safe and secure.”

Lenovo devices with pre-installed Office Home & Student 2019 include: IdeaCentre A340, A540; IdeaPad D330, C340, L340 Gaming, S340, S540; Yoga S730, S740, S940, C640, C740, C940; and Legion Y540, Y545, Y7000 and Y740.

Better late than never. Last year I bought a notebook off Lazada from some random vendor and it came preinstalled with Windows 10, Office (both with a KMS patch), and a ton of other cracked commercial software. How they can get away with this I have no idea. I sent the notebook back, btw. Apart from being illegal, it was too risky having all this stuff preinstalled.

It is extremely difficult to buy any laptop in Thailand without it being infested with stuff you didn't ask for, didn't want and which is illegal and possibly prone to viruses. I waited in a store in Kalasin for a machine I wanted to buy as they offered to bring the model I wanted in the colour I wanted from another store. When it arrived an hour later it was stuffed with fake software.

They were shocked when I refused to buy it, saying that Thais wanted and expected all the fake stuff as standard. It shows how out of touch Thais are, as just about anything you want to do is available as a free (although sometimes limited) version. No-one needs fake software anymore. Same as those who still buy pirated movie dvds are years behind, with plenty of high-speed internet available to download anything in far higher quality. So I'm told.

I bought an HP this week with office installed, deleted it straight away. Nothing fake on it but they give a lot of free cheap crap that went in the bin, mouse etc. I almost bought a Lenovo but the HP is better imo.

Every time I purchase a machine (laptop or desktop), the first thing I do is wipe the drive and install only the software I want on it.

wouldnt it be easier just to uninstall the software you dont want ? Arnt you at risk of deleting a specific factory driver and replacing it with a generic windows driver which may not work as well ?

If you use something like Double Driver (freeware) you can back up all your drivers before you wipe your machine then reinstall them. Personally I prefer wiping and reinstalling my machine so I know exactly what's on it and how it's configured.
